Just dropping by to say hello before I dive right in and start asking eleventyskillion-o-plex questions.

Born and raised in the United States, I have lived in Japan (non-military, non-English-teacher :P) since 1992. My entire life has been an exercise in annoying everyone in the solar system with ramblings about various modes of transportation, including (obviously) spacecraft.

I have always wanted to fly but cannot afford training, so I have made it a point to know as much about aeronautics as a layman could possibly cram into his brain. Sure, it's likely the most useless knowledge ever for one who's never so much as touched a yoke, but what else is a guy gonna do to satisfy his overgeekedness? :embarrassed:

Since the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission was this year my current obsession is, of course, flying the mission (and the other missions in Project Apollo) in Orbiter as accurately as possible. That is why I joined the forum -- because likely no one else would want to listen to my rambling!

I am in the exact same condition. Born to soar with the eagles, but my wings have been clipped by the almighty dollar. So I do the next best thing and fly every PC-based simulator I can get my hands on. My wife gets tired of hearing me spew out my limited aviation knowledge each time we pass by our local airport as a plane is passing over. Like she even knows or cares what a left-handed traffic pattern or a downwind leg are...

Welcome to the forum! You are among many overgeeky freinds!

The quest for knowledge is never worthless. I congratulate you for continuing to want to learn new things.

There are many here who share your enthusiasm for learning both the astrophysical concepts about flight and spaceflight and also the history associated with it. You'll fit in well! Welcome.

Heh. I travel to the US occasionally for business, and one of the things I look forward to (after my small intestine is examined by the security goons, of course) are the flights where they pipe the radio traffic to one of the audio channels. I often listen to nothing else the entire flight...
