This is mostly about the Map function in IMFD 5.1....

I've been doing Orbiter on an old P3 computer under WinXP. On that machine, the Map function in IMFD 5.1 looks just as advertised, with all features showing either by default or when activated with a button (SOI, intercept, etc.).

I recently got a state-of-the-art machine that runs Vista. On this new machine, IMFD's Map doesn't display correctly. I've tried IMFD 5.0, 5.1e, and 5.1g on this machine, and they all have the same problems with the Map. These problems are:
  1. Own ship's path NEVER displays. Only the white dot of the ship itself is ever visible.
  2. Intercept info NEVER displays. There's no line pointing to the interception point of the target's orbit, and the circles for the target and its SOI at the intercept don't show up, either.
Otherwise, the Map seems to work as normal on the new machine. SOIs for the present positions of planets show up, I can show all the orbits, I can move the center of the view around. It's just that the ship course and intercept stuff doesn't show.

Is this a Vista vs. XP display or DirectX issue? Given that otherwise IMFD seems to work as normal, that's all I can think of.

I haven't tried IMFD under Vista but that sounds like some variables could be incorrectly defined by default... I'll need to double check something from the code...

Can you post IMFD-Log.html in this forum. You must read the file while the map program is running. Exiting orbiter will reset the Log.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid I can't be as timely with what you want. Seems my new computer just malfunctioned and will down until at least Monday evening, if not longer. :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:

Let's get back into this when we have the log. It might narrow down the area where to search the problem in a case if it does display some errors.

OK, finally got my machine back from the shop, got Orbiter reinstalled (they had to reinstall Vista), and have run a test. The log is attached.

What I did was that Europa-Callisto tutorial that rdenny made. I used his starting scenario and did all as in his video. On the map display, at no time did my own course ever show up, nor my intercept point at Callisto.

You'll need to take a copy from the Log while the Orbiter is running in a background. If you exit the simulation window the Log will be reset because exiting a simulation will restart orbiter launchpad.

An other possibility avoid this problem is to change launchpad settings.

Extra -> Debugging Options -> Orbiter Shutdown Options

And select "Terminate Orbiter Process". In that case Orbiter application is not respawn at exit.
