New Virtual Space Agency!

Wait, if you finished the website, then why do I still get 404 errors? Also, assuming STS-200 is definitely happening on Friday, and you at the one who deals with that site, shouldn't you get all the related docs etc posted onto your site? Still see "This page is under construction." in the manned flight section. Friday is tomorrow, surely you aren't waiting until then to post (create?) the flight plans and everything. Your pilot will need/want that all in advance.

Just to mirror what everyone else has said. Slow down, and plan out everything. Seriously go look at Gary's ISA, it's pretty legit. And don't forget, just because you are trying to set up a VSA, doesn't mean you can't hop on orbiter for funsies sometime, don't rush your VSA just so you can go fly.

We're still not fully set up. However, our flight plan is almost complete.

By the way, what pages are you getting 404s for?

On this one. I see there are sub sections to that, and they work fine, but the mission control root url is a 403. (guess I misread before, though it does also mention 404.)

Thanks but ISA still has a fair few blanks. It's been up two years and I'm still putting together mission checklists and expanding things. It's something that'll never be complete but it does (for me) add to the experience.

The first few missions of ISA were adding modules to the ISS as this gave me several different missions I could fly (crew changes, resupply, additional modules, etc) and I didn't have to worry about working out where my space station should go - I already had one.

After that it was easier to add probe missions to Venus & Mars (Jupiter probes launching soon) and to start up a moonbase.

Like VOSSA, ISA uses a 'fork' in reality, we have an overview of the vessels we use, an in progress mission, a mission manifest and more.

Thanks! Fixed.

I saw you site. Impressive!

I have also written this in the VOSSA forum page.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Space Station Details:

Inclination(same as the moons, it will be used for future missions to the moon)
5.145° to the ecliptic
(between 18.29° and 28.58° to Earth's equator)

Apogee: Around 450 km.
Perigee: around 400 km.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That is all i planned(and since im on the opp side of the earth compared to ericevan and eli13 i have had no updates on the full mission plan)

About midway through this thread I was actually interested in joining as an astronaut. But, as several have pointed out in this thread, ORGANIZATION is key, and I'm not seeing it. On the contrary, it seems EricEvan and Nazban are completely not in agreement regarding flight readiness. One of you says there will probably be a launch at the end of this week. The other says you are nowhere near organized, planning is in the early stages, and launches won't happen until later this month or early next month. I want to see this VSA succeed where others have failed, but guys, I really think you need to pull it together and get a clear direction and plan before you even attach a station module in the payload bay.

My two cents.

Originally i was(and still am) pushing for a later launch date, because of the same things you all said, but in this, the director of manned spaceflight and the head director wants to launch earlier to atleast begin the VOSSA spaceflight programs. I am trying to file in all the plans about the station, crew, and mission roster, and i understand that this is going to fast. Im also giving a no go for a mission this weekend.
I know that if we just go straight into missons, we will collapse without a proper management and organization, which is what i want to build up before we fly into space.

Could we just launch the shuttle by itself without a payload and postpone the space station launch to next week?

Out of mild curiosity:
Virtual Online Space Simulation Agency
I think I could grasp the concept of a "virtual space agency", and, at a stretch, even "space simulation agency", but "virtual space simulation agency"? Is this a virtual agency for simulations, or an agency for virtual simulations? Are you guys simulating simulations? Or does the "virtual" refer to "online", and you are actually simulating the internet?

Lets be a coder once more and put brackets to decipher the syntax properly and prevent order of precedence errors:

It is a "virtual (online (Space (Simulation Agency)))"

A simulation agency is obviously an agency dedicated to simulate something the whole day long. So far so good.

A space (x) means it is about space, so they simulate space in their agency.

Online (x) means something takes place over the internet, so this agency simulates space over the internet.

Virtual (x) means something does not really exist or is simulated in a computer.

So, it is either an agency that simulates space over the internet, that does not really exist, or it is an agency that simulates space over the internet, that is simulated in a computer... a mild recursion.

I was thinking about not postponing the flight, but sending up a dummy module for testing and practice.

According to your website you will be launching the first module of your space station. As you only have four hours to go until launch I think you need to make some fast decisions about what it is your are launching - If anything.

Personally, I'd take a step back from it all. Re-evaluate just what it is you wish to achieve because right now you are falling into the trap of having too much going on and moving too fast with no plan or direction. If you keep going this way you will end up fragmented and VOSSA will die.

So - My advice (and this is just advice) - STOP. Get your VSA members into a chat room. Talk over key roles and responsibilities for the agency. Work out who will be doing what. Start PLANNING for those missions. Do not launch a single piece of hardware until you have a programme. You can't build a station until you know what it is going to look like at the end, the reason it's going to be in the orbit it's in and what role it will play.

Finally, I had a look at your forum. You can launch into a polar orbit from KSC. You can get to the moon from a Earthly polar orbit without a plane change. However, these two errors indicate that you need to have a long hard think about what you want to achieve and ask a few questions to confirm your thoughts before starting to plan the missions.

Good Luck!

It would be hard to do this as we are spread across the globe...
I don't know though. I can't make any decisions about it and no one is online at the moment.

I can sympathize with timezone problems. However, as I write this, it is Friday. Surely with the weekend, you can all sit down around Skype or Teamspeak or something for an hour and work things out. Forums are a great backup method. Bottom line is you guys need to work out exactly what your long term goals are.

If all you have right now is the space station, fine. Like Gary said, decide what the station is going to look like. Figure out what kind of orbit will be best for its purpose. Then start planning missions, and announcing things. If you have directors of both manned and unmanned spaceflight, both of them need to figure out what to do within each division.

I honestly do wish you guys the best... but I've seen this pattern before. If you want to succeed, you need to take a step back, and figure out where you're trying to go, otherwise everyone will get lost.

Im here right now.So go or no go and if we are a go I need the flight plan and scenario files.

I thank you all for your consideration. I have suggested just to send a shuttle out for a short mission just to test our systems out. In the meanwhile we will plan out Polaris better. I really appreciate all the advice that everyone has given us to makes us a better VSA.

That's what it's going to be. Final decision as we are at just over two hours to launch.

Your mission planning department sure needs some more agility. ;)

Everyone is invited to see the mission control of our first mission!

It's at http://www.azrockets.org/vossa/missioncontrol/chat/
