The Flamberge Project

Bloodworth has so kindly let me work on the Flamberge. I will be re-working the model in a few ways - add RCS thrusters, reduce poly-count, etc. Here is my complete list of things to-do:

-Reduce Poly-Count
-Add Custom Sounds
-Add a VC
-Make Custom Exhaust Textures
-Add UCGO & UMMU Support
-Add Textures
-DLL the Ship
-Add RCS Thrusters

This will be the most exciting thing though.
I will be making three variants of the ship:

1 - Battlecruiser - The most basic. It will have cannons on the large and small hardpoints on the model.

2 - Super Carrier - The X configuration of engine pods will de turned into two single nacelettes and have one large, multi-story hangar on each end. The large and small hardpoints will be turned into hangars and docks respectively.

3 - Research Vessel - The hardpoints will be given optical teliscopes on the small ones, and radio and infared on the large ones. The bridge will be given a radar dome, and more antenne. A big mess of antenne will be put on the half-sphere part of the nose.

I know this seems like quite an undertaking, but I'm not a novice in C++ and 3-D modeling. I really want this to be an addon that the community as a whole will want to download and enjoy, so suggestions are welcome, and I will be asking the community's opinion on things for the ship from time to time. I am currently just working on reducing the poly-count, but that should be done soon, and I will start working on adding things to the models, then adding textures. I might get some early development pictures of the models up soon too.

God, please please pleeeaaaasssseeee let this work :)

I concur. And a little update: It seems all of the geometry inside f the model shows on the outside of it too. That will make it a little more complicated.....
Also, I found the new .ini file at the RTF forums (thanks Bloodworth and Seahawk!)

How about a nice module? It's been said before but if you can wrap your head around a spacecraft INI, then a basic DLL isn't that much more difficult once the environment is set up. And then with a bit of research you can make the vessel do so much more. :)

wait - do you mean to give it some of these cool featres as at the AR-18 or DGIV? That would be REALLY cool!

(sorry if this is stupid, I don't know many about this)

Well, I don't; it isn't my project. :P

But yes, the Arrow and DG-IV are both run by modules, if that's what you mean. Something like the DG-IV would take many moons and much experience to create, though. This vessel wouldn't need 80% of those features anyway. Something comparatively simple like an FTL drive would add plenty of awesomeness points to the Flamberge.

I always wondered if it would be possible to dramatically reduce the polycount by ripping out all the stuff on the INSIDE of the model, but then again I know absolutely nothing about modelling.

Yes, I have used the SC3 to DLL converter on the .ini to get the source code for the vessel in C++ form. I am hoping to give it a few of those nifty DLL features too: multiple views, interactive VC, (maybe based on that of the Venator from Star Wars) and that is the basic stuff. I don't know if my skills will go this far, but I want to give it its own FTL drive and complete control over the power, oxygen, fuel, crew, cargo, engines, etc. from the VC, much like the AR-18 and the Hius.

Sorry guys, I am leaving tomorrow to go camping for a week. I won't be able to get to a computer until friday or possibly saturday. Keep making suggestions while I'm gone! I will check here first thing when I get home.

EDIT: Oops... Sorry for the doubble post.

EDIT: Ok I'm back! Sorry it took so long, I got back from camping friday and immediatly got sick with a fever that lasted Saturday through Sunday. Now that I'm back, let the awesomeness commence!

EDIT: Hi Guys, I am sorry that I was gone for so long (My English teacher gives waaay to much homework) Even though I was gone for so long, I have been able to work on the ship a little bit. I worked on the mesh a little bit, and managed to get the ship working in-game off of a dll. I have a rough idea of what the texture is going to be, but I still need to reduce the polycount a little bit more.
