Ok Guys, you knew this was coming sooner or later since its is now oficially 2012.

What do we think about all the Hype about the end of the Mayan Calender this year and all the buzz that we are either facing a polar reversal or massive solar "hick up" that will incinerate the earth ??

Just scare-tactics or is there something more to it ?
Are global governments keeping information from us regarding this subject ?
What do you think.

This should be a lively discussion so please keep on topic.

The only thing I know is that I would join any party that celebrates 2012-12-21 on that day.... (assuming that I don't have exams on December 22/23 in my university of course....)

Whoops!! I just clicked the wrong poll result. I guess I'm a believer now. (e.g. I voted wrong:lol:)

But seriously, most of what these people are saying is hogwash.

All that is based on a rock made in 1470's, and interpreted in 20th century.
Even so,
-Not Maya, but Aztec calendar.
-Not end of the world, but end of the Fifth Sun.
-Not a disaster, but a time of change.
-Not for mortals, but for gods.

Nice hype, nothing behind covers.

No doomsday.

Most probably a world wide energy and financial crisis, maybe some grand-scale wars. Some may call THAT their doomsday, but it is nothing mankind can't survive.

As for the end of the world, let me cite George Carlin: "The planet is doing fine, the people are :censored:ed!"

I love that explanation by Neil deGrasse Tyson

Because popular culture didn't already have enough prognosticate over.

Well, at least nobody can proof the opposite so it must happen

But that's argumentum ad ignorantiam, isn't it?

The same as usual: yawn.

But I can't wait to read the excuses why there also was no doomsday this time...

Didn't world already end on May 23rd 2011? Hmmm, I guess I have to come undead at least until December 21st...

Im going bet 8 million dollars that this dosent happen.... Im going to have it signed into a contract too...

Exactly. It's impressive how far spread there are misunderstandings of an old rock. And billions still get their morals and laws from far more ancient and vague texts.

Doomsayers claim 'Nibiru' is a brown dwarf. However, it's easy to see that there is no such brown dwarf near the Earth. At a distance of even Pluto's orbit, Nibiru would be many times brighter. If Nibiru was anywhere near the inner solar system its pull would affect the orbits of the other planets, and we'd see that.

A 'pole shift' will not occur either. Doomsayers would have you believe that these shifts happen suddenly, displacing everything in a matter of minutes. A magnetic pole shift is a slow process; it takes hundreds to thousands of years and would not be noticeable to us.

The Mayan calendar does not end; it merely clicks over from '12.19.19.17.19' to '13.0.0.0.0' on December 21st, 2012. That's exactly the same as our calendar ending on December 31st. The year ends and a new year starts.

You guys all take the fun out of it with reason, and knowledge, and science.

I for one find it hilarious watch these people run around. But I do suspect there are some with malicious intent on the crys of the end of days.

You better be careful about mentioning politics here.;) You don't want the mods after you.

The Mayans couldn't predict their own demise so I don't see how any can put any credence into this 2012 doomsday rubbish.

I think Face has it spot on with his 'doomsday' predictions and as already been pointed out we've had a few 'end of the world' days pass by with nothing happening.
