Just for a bit of fun....

My favourite:

http://sensesofcinema.com/2011/cteq/the-wages-of-fear-2/

A simple tale of fear, greed... and most human emotions.

Nicely shot as well,
Bit irratating I can't seem to find the scene where the rolled tobacco is blown out just before the first lorry blows up?

N.

Well, then, my one: Seven Samurai

Which delivers many good answers to the question: What makes a warrior?

Yes, a classic.

Not the best maybe, but one of my top favorites:

And also one of the rare instances that delivers realistic swordplay.

Star Wars (1977) is probably one of the greats imo.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

Here is the final scene. However, if you haven't seen this classic yet I should say that you will want to skip this youtube video and watch the film from the beginning.

For me, two Kubrick films. The two being 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Dr. Strangelove.

That is a great film Codz. Do you mind if I indulge in some 2001?

I hope not...

2001 ASO is on my list.

Also, the original 1962 version of The Manchurian Candidate starring Frank Sinatra. I never bothered watching the remake; I don't see a need when the original is just so good and the trailers looked horrible.

For honorable mention I will submit The Blues Brothers. It may not seem so great in memory, but everytime that movie comes on TV I wind up sitting there and watching the entire thing all the way to the end, so there must be something to it.

Films like 2001, Dr. Strangelove and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly are masterpieces.

From Brazilian cinema, I'd pick City of God and both Elite Squad.

The hunt for Red October, 2010, Apollo 13 and The Right. Stuff.
The hunt for Red October for excellent camera work, story line and actors.

Always giggled at Connery trying to speak Russian but it was a taut, well-told tale; I saw it several times in the theatre.

For me; I vaccilate between two great movies that couldn't be more opposite: the glitzy; sensational Chicago (I'm a musical buff - especially when said musical contains these incredible women) and the sweeping, powerful and utterly heart-stopping Lawrence Of Arabia. This movie is beyond magnificent - one of the greatest expressions of the filmmakers' art ever recorded. Wonderful acting, writing, cinematography; all backed up by the gigantic Maurice Jarre musical score. There's never been another movie like this and never will be again; Lawrence Of Arabia was a true one-of-a-kind motion picture event; and I believe the Greatest Movie Ever Made. :)

I don't know about the best, but a movie I really like is The Man from Earth. It's one of those movies where people are just sitting around talking the whole time, but the dialog is so fascinating that you are completely hooked.

Titanic? :uhh:

Although, i'm more into Chinese martial arts movies like Drunken Master 2, Dragons Forever etc.
