Project Ultimate Project ISS for Orbiter

Hey guys! I got an idea! Let's all bicker and fight like M6 over what position we want in this project!

Hi,
Pilot7893

I am going to need some help with basic bitmaps for our vc displays. This would be a big job that would help me out a lot. I am proud of you and every one on this team for the way we all act. We are men we don't fight we just get the job done. Case in point I am lead programmer for now but I would gladly step down to help the project. I think we are seeing for the first time what a well run team can do with team work.

Thank you everyone for all the hard work.
Russ

Hi all,

Pilot7893, yes if you and Kyle could handle doing some nice screenshots to really advertise ISSU, that would be great, Whenever we finish something we will send it to you both (your eyes only), and if you could do use some real nice shots, with lens-flare etc. then that would be good.
I will then upload these to the ISSU Flickr page.

We are also going to set up ISSU it's own YouTube channel, so we will need videos also.

Cheers, Pete

That's litterly screaming a job for Tex, he makes great videos.

Question, after the ISS is done are you guys going to make any new add ons for MIR, Skylab or China's new space satiation?

Hmmm, that sounds like an idea, but we haven't discussed anything like that yet.

I would very much like to do mir to a similar level of detail (some of the modules are the same, so the workload ought to be lower), but we shall discuss this once we have finished the ISS (or at least once we have more than a couple of the modules done).

All the work we do is done in a way that we can upgrade as computers get faster. So I see this as an on going project that can be updated with little work later. I myself am looking forward to the new moon/mars stuff that is going to happen.

Work update

Zarya is getting close to needing some of the systems like thrusters and docking computers beta tested. Just to make sure we have the thrusters working right.

Do not think of the Zarya as the Zarya as we beta test. The Zarya is using the base dll that all our modules will use so we may be testing something that the Zarya does not have. In the end the Zarya will only have what it should have. I am doing this to speed up development.

Hi all

An idea for our next project:

A Project Constellation experience, with an interior for a moon base that you can build, module-by-module?

Just a thought.

Or what if we made a space race add on? Have all the major missions from sputnik to Shenzhou 7. What do you guys say? Most of the work is done, we would just need permission from a few of the add ons developers. Make sense?

new projects will be at least 18 months away

Hi, Guys

I just want to make it clear that we have a lot of work to do on this project before we can start a new project. It is not as easy as just taking models that are complete and add dll's to them. Thorton has to give me a meshc file with every version of the models that he has sent me. We have updated the Zarya mesh 3 time already. We need full control of each model that we use. I think it is best that we model what we need.

Now with that being said modelers could be done with there part of the ISSU project within 9 months. So it would be a good idea to setup the next project. If we want to start a new project I say this because the team my want to take a little rest from orbiter at that point.

Thorton is working with me when I code the mesh's and vc's because he knows what I need and feeds me models that I can just drop in to the code. I think Thorton will be coding soon because he helps me so much now with all the numbers. In fact he is coding now helping with thrusters. He is doing it in a text file and sending it to me.

We still need research done this is our bottle neck now. This is a big job it takes a long time. Thorton and I were talking about this and we think we are going to have to fake some of the systems because we just can't find the info. When I say research I mean hours of reading and putting together how the systems work not posting a picture of a system. So lets focus on this project and get some work done.

Hello to all,

I agree with Russ, before talking about new projects, we have to complete this as well. We are working hard, but however we need time.
As Russ said, to speed up the development we need more people working on research. If we have more people working on researchm then programmers can work only on programming, instead to search informations about the sistems they are working on. This could help us very much, allowing us to work faster and release the addon earlier. If anyone wants to help us, please PM me and Peter, we will be happy to have someone supporting us. Thanks for your support.

--OFFICIAL HELP REQUEST--

Hi all.

This is an official help request.

1. The team really needs as many researchers as possible. Anybody wishing to contribute please PM me or The Aviator.

2. We still really need translators for our site - I think we have a Spanish translator now.

3. We really could do with some RENDERERS. We are planning to model the ISS interior by rendering them from actual photos. Below, I have attached 2 pics. No.1 is an actual photo of the Harmony interior, and No.2 is the actual interior rendered from the photo. This was done by Unussapiens, but he is busy at the moment, so anybody who feels they can produce similar quality interiors, and who wants to help, please PM any of the ISSU team. Our research dept. can provide photos of high enough quality to render from for most of ISS, we just need people to do it. They will simply need to be textures & meshes only, all systems will be handled by the programming dept.
Anyone think they can help? Post below.

4. Also, to Tachyon, I detected a want to participate in this project in this line:
As I was reading this thread and wanting to be a part such creativity and team work but not possessing the technical knowledge [well I did do some GMAX work and technical writing, and beta testing .. hmmm]

If you want to join the team that's OK, but can you first tell us what you think you could do on the project?

Thanks!

-Pete

--MANAGEMENT UPDATE--

Today we have finished a basic interior for Zarya and Quest. Some pics are posted below. THESE ARE JUST BASICS - NOT THE FINAL PRODUCT.
Animations for hatch opening are not done yet.

Our keyboard controlled movement system is now working also :speakcool:

Unussapiens..

The first pic is the pic you used to render from, correct?
And the second is the actual interior?

What I mean is I can provide most of ISS interior in detail like this, for people to render from...

-Pete

The problem with photos for the interior is, they look funny from certain angles. You should try to model, as much detail as possible. IMO

As much as I would like to model every part of the ISS in detail it would not be practical unless you had an incredible graphics card (Which I don't. I don't plan on making an addon I can't use). If I was doing it just for renders I would model everything, but as it has to be done realtime I am going to rely on textures.

@Orbinaut Pete: I just realised, the first pic is the one I based my Unity VC on, the second one is a render of my VC (and an old one at that, I'll take some more pics once I've got it working in Orbiter)

--FLICKR UPDATE--

Our team Flickr page has been updated with a pic of the PMA & its interior.
It is in the Exteriors set.
