Walking on the moon a sin?

I've actually talked to people in the past who flat out believe that going to the moon or any of the other planets is a sin because they see it as man trying to touch heaven. They see it as being the exact same thing as the tower of Babylon.

Err... that's Tower of Babel. And it never stopped the medieval churchmen from building their cathedral spires ever higher.

I thought the tower of babel was all about the fact that we all spoke the same language and the entire world was working together on it. God didn't like that.

But Its been a while since I read that part, but I'll have to go grab my bible.

If this was related to the Tower of Babel then its a sin to be multi-lingual. And world peace?

Yup thats a sin too!

If the Pope had said "no, you can't do that", would the US have scrapped the Apollo programme?

No. And less than ever Kennedy. But maybe during the Middle Ages...

The Pope didn't agree to the invasion of Iraq. And I can't imagine he once agreed to Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Vietnam.

The pope during Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a master of the silent protest, if you know what I mean. ;)

You mean the way he silently protested the Italian attempt at the reunification of the Roman empire and the German self-appointed crusade against godless bolshevism? Oh, wait, he didn't.

Well... Kennedy was Catholic. So maybe.

He was also dead.. and no the US wouldn't have dropped billions into getting to the moon just to have the Pope say no no. We would have continued either way.

There is no such concept as sin; sin is a human invention to label anything we don't agree with ( or don't understand).
It helps clergy keep control over human behaviour of their flock without having to explain why they don't agree with a certain action.

Just label it as "sin" and the herd-animal will comply.

Yes you are right,it's sin!
Sin that I will never walk on the moon...:(

Never say never, look what happened to Connery.

I thought the seperation of church and state meant...SEPERATE!

Religion is a personal choice, what one believes is none of my business or anyone elses, keep religion to yourself and all will be fine. I for one act as tread lightly and do what feels good.

And now someone should claim walking on earth is a sin . I'm sure there are some idiots (but not here on O-F I hope) that would kill themselves because of that...

Sin?

To live you MUST eat. To eat you MUST kill.

The morale here being,

Wait till someone labs up a non toxic synthetic fat/protein substitute

Hey guys, i was watching the movie ''The Mist'' (not the sort of movie where you like a happy ending) and one women says that walking on the moon was a sort of sin, to people really believe that?
I know it says in the bible to do not try to match gods powers but...

Well seeing that the first few versus of the Book of Genesis explains scientifically how the Earth was made I highly doubt that walking on the moon's a sin.

Well... There is both fat and protein in several kind of vegetables, fruits or the likes.. (beans is a good source of protein), is eating vegetables considered killing too?

It is not killing, if you do it for food.

That's rationalization...

The Bible gives man God's approval to "be fruitful and multiply", and to have "dominion over all the earth". Doesn't take much to extend that onto the moon or the rest of the universe for that matter.
