I've been out of the loop for several months, so I'm glad to come back and see Martin is still developing Orbiter. I really like the direction the beta is heading in.
Forgive me if these have already been reported, but I did skim this thread and did not see them:
1. Planets using The old cloud...
Artlav does it again!
Its a lot more challenging than the original when physics gets involved.
I raised my FOV to 90 to play. Its definately not for anyone who gets motion sick from visual stimuli. Then again, they're not ready for space exploration either.
Maybe a second radar MFD that...
Sorry, I dropped the "H" while copying and pasting and forgot to pick it back up again. Its a term I only came across today. I was looking further into Lagrange points and went on a Wikipedia tangent.
Yes, I am aware of the MFD and have used it a little bit. Its definitely helpful since there...
I know there have been several discussions involving Lagrange points here.
Has anyone even touched on eteroclinic trajectories or the Interplanetary Transport Network?
Would this even be possible in Orbiter or does the inaccuracy of time compression make this prohibitive?
I read up on it a...
That's the tricky part. It has to be pretty low for your SOI to become that of the jovian moon (especially with IO and Europa). And if you are coming in directly without a parking orbit first, you will need a lot of thrust in in a short amount of time to insert into its orbit before leaving the...
Make sure you have a ship that can get you there.
The date of your launch is important with going to the higher orbits. You will want to use the forward velocity of Earth. So plan your ejection when Jupiter appears in front of Earth in its orbit.
1. Setup the course for intercept with Jupiter...
I suspect any developers that are still around would be willing to recompile. They will need to if they want to have UMmu as the next version of Orbiter will almost certainly use the more complex atmospheric models that are instantly lethal to existing 1.5 units (unless legacy model is...
Has anyone developed an addon based on something like this?
http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/space/01/01/moon.lava.hole/index.html
Ancient lava holes on the moon!? What could be cooler for a base design?
A meshland design might be nice, but it would still be cool without it. Of course, the whole...
I just thought this might be relevant to the rocketing community section for an that might have known him. RIP

This sounds such a solution that is needed for Dark side bases on the moon to stay in communication with Earth: A satellite orbiting the L2 point. (with tracking from ground stations of course or omni directional antennas)
I haven't the skills to come up with the orbital elements to make this...
Thanks for the update Tl8 and sunshine.
Yes, Get well soon Dan. Orbiter will still be here when you get back. Don't worry about the impatient moaning from us users. This will just give us more time to imagine the possibilities of UCGO and what we will do with it.
From Dan's current beta forum, it looks like he's planning one more short beta round with the docs before making it a public beta. Maybe next Tuesday? I think I will resume breathing just in case it isn't.
Then again, he said it will be "released" on Tuesday. The public beta could be any time...
There is a seriously underused rating system for files in the hangar now. Perhaps with the account synchronization with O-F, this will be used more often and users will have no excuse to whine about wasting there time if they pay attention to the user rating.
Perhaps a comment section would...
IMFD seems to work the best for me with these sorts of trips.
You could Manually eject from Earth orbit, align planes with Jupiter and then use the transfer MFD to reach Jupiter, but is just seems to feel much more gratifying to me to do it with just one perfectly times burn from LEO...
