It's can be obvious that the outer bands around the Mandelbrot set form complete loops around the Mandelbrot set. Look at this image. It is the Mandelbrot set with just two iterations calculated. You can see that the band representing two iterations, travels smoothly around the outer edges...

The best fractal softwares i think are chaospro (freeware) apophysis (freeware) ultrafractal(shareware) fractalextreme(shareware) but there are many many different fractal softwares out there and it depends on what you want to do with the fractal as to what is the best software for the job...

I used a method called "tweening" to be able to render a zoom that deep antialiasedx4 in HD in a realistic amount of time! It still took over a month!
