Well that just sounds like application of Newton's second law, on the bit about impulse to lift off the rocket.
It's not too difficult to calculate how many N's of thrust the engine needs. I'll look into the idea of starting in sequence like you mentioned.
Thanks for the advice everyone...
So I had this idea way back when. Make a 7 foot tall, 1 foot diameter chemical rocket to launch just for fun. Realizing how hard it was, I've decided to build a prototype of the body just to test it out.
Now here's what I'm wondering. Is it a bad idea to buy a number of premade engines (ie tiny...
So does the shuttle have a bailout option for the early stages of launch? I assume jetissoning the SRB's would put a put of force on the ET and cause it to disintegrate, like on STS-51L. I know that when the SRB's are gone and the shuttle is below subsonic speed, the astronaut's can escape, at...
Ahaha. I have plenty experience with that model. Time for a change.

Right now I'm in the middle of Moonfire, by Norman Mailer.
It's really interesting, especially the special edition with the high quality glossy photos.
Well what I might do is make some modifications and actually put it in phase 2 configuration, but that's a big maybe. Otherwise, I don't have a huge problem with the configuration being a bit outdated.
And if your Revell model is better than Houston's, I'm sold. Haha. The Saturn V I bought...

I'm looking at buying a model of the ISS from Revell. The scale is 1:144. I was wondering if anyone here had experience with this model and could tell me if it's worth my while.
I purchased and built a Saturn V from...
So I've installed Thorton's ISS V3.2 and am having some issues. I'm on Orbiter 2010 (not P1 due to the lack of compatibility with AutoFCS) and have Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 installed. I installed all the add-ons recommended in the instruction manual. Everything seems right, but I still get...
