Right, so this would mean that what you are observing is realistic, as tidal forces, etc. would mean that you couldn't truly land in a permanent sense. I would say the "issue" is your expectation, not the simulation.

I believe so. Look at the configuration files (Config folder). Main solar system bodies might reference a module that computes realistic trajectories that take into account perturbations. There should be a way to specify Keplerian elements instead. Sorry, but I don't remember all of the details.

You are trying to get from your launch point to the point that will serve as the periapsis of your hyperbolic escape trajectory. If your final sun-centric orbit will be inclined with respect to the ecliptic, then that hyperbolic periasis point will need to be north or south of the ecliptic...
