    Project Multistage2015 - Development Thread

If this shows that the problem is just with TransX, perhaps you should ask the question in that thread where the TransX developers lurk. Edit: I just read my own post here again and it sounded sarcastic. I didn't mean it to sound that way. But my advice to ask the TransX developers still...

    Project Multistage2015 - Development Thread

No. What I meant was, ignore TransX for a minute, Set up a future burn with just BurnTime MFD with a mutistage2015 vehicle. Pause. Take a screenshot. Save and then reload the scenario but substituting in the old multistage2 module and see if all the BurnTimeMFD numbers are the same. I'm...

    Project Hybrid airship

Goldbeater's skin. Because it was a polymer before the plastic industry was a thing. The number of bovines that must have had to be slaughtered to make one of those things is incredible, though I suppose that was going to happen anyway. Airships. They are like giant air sausages. In more ways...

    Project Hybrid airship

How much overpressure could the gas bags support? That was used in the Akron class. Helium was very expensive in the 1930s and venting was out of the question.

    Project Hybrid airship

Actually, I don't understand fully what is meant by "venting" the lifting gas, even in the old days of constant volume rigid airships. A pure venting would decrease the internal density and increase the buoyant lift, right? So it must mean replacing some of the lifting gas with air, but I'm not...

News Northrop Grumman acquires Orbital ATK

 Wow. That's a lot of mergers in four years. Dust hadn't even settled from the Orbital Sciences -ATK merger.

When they weren't crashing and killing most of the crew, which the non-German ones did with alarming regularity (see my first post). Then a German one did crash in view of a movie camera and it was all over.

    Project Hybrid airship

    1) Are you imagining this as a rigid airship or a non-rigid airship? 2) How are you imagining the propulsion system? It would work very differently on say, Mars than Earth. It seems to me that the endurance is very limited right now.

    Project Hybrid airship

I've been thinking about this. Is there a way to reverse hover thrust? If so, you would only need to traverse the engine pods through 180 degrees. You would also have reverse thrust ready immediately, rather than waiting for the pods to swivel. Being able to use forward/reverse thrust was the...

    News 'Autophage' Rocket

https://www.popularmechanics.com/space/rockets/a20898987/autophage-rocket-would-devour-itself-for-fuel/ Have to admit that I didn't see that coming. I wonder how that compares to reuse cost wise.

I've looked at this a little more and I now realize that the HUD messages just needs a full stop for better clarity. "Thrust rotated forward. The angle is now X degrees."

Do you have burn time MFD? See if there is a difference in what it says between the two versions.

    Project Hybrid airship

Ok, I tried it and it's a little confusing... Does "q" still have a legitimate purpose, or is it a vestige now? It still gives a message on the HUD, but I can't tell what function it serves. From what I understand, you now use the hover thruster only and not the mains anymore? I recommend...

    Misc Lunar MFD

You can't find it on O-H because it was never there. The developer keeps it on his website instead and always has. You just forgot ;) http://users.kymp.net/p501474a/Orbiter/Orbiter.html

    General Question Blocky Clouds?

Yup. Looks pretty good for Orbiter 2010. You don't. That's why Orbiter 2016 is an upgrade. It allows for higher resolution. There were a few horizon.dds add-ons for Orbiter 2006/2010. That gave a crisp blue horizon, but then the sunsets were a weird green and all the other planets'...

General Question reentry flames on launch (screenshot)

Not quite velocity, but Mach number. Density doesn't really matter so long as you are in the realm of continuum mechanics. I would say that when one tries to decide whether to render re-entry flames, they should consider the heating of the air (via shock heating), and not on the vehicle. So...
