Question Fully reusable two-stage-to-orbit or reusable 1st/expendable 2nd stage?

I think SpaceX needs to prove they can economically refurbish first stages without sacrificing vehicle reliability before even contemplating recovering the second stage. Seems like most of the vehicle's value is in the first stage (9 engines versus only 1 for the second) anyway. I suspect it...

    News Project Morpheus

This looks really neat. Crucial, too. It seems the problem with all proposals for ISRU Mars missions is that we don't actually have any rocket systems capable of running on CH4.

    Project G42-200 StarLiner

Not far above Mach 1 you want the visor up at all times to prevent the windshield from melting. The wind rushing sound does build quickly once you reach a certain speed threshold so I suspect it's WAD to remind you of this (not yet simulated) fact.

    Moon One?

I guess with regard to sand, yes, Martian sand gets blown about but as I understand it's so much less abrasive and generally not as annoying as lunar soil.

Agreed. Can't wait to also pair it with the DX9 compatible DGIV!

Discussion This is Heavy... 'Red Dragon' Mars Mission

Cost projections are easy to make but easier to shatter. As much as I'm rooting for them, I'm not really holding my breath in terms of the price tag.

    Project G42-200 StarLiner

Hard to say. Did you follow the procedure on page 1, follow the ascent profile in the cockpit, and switch engine modes on time? You should be able to get into orbit with a few thousand pounds of oxidizer and fuel left. Also it would be helpful to know -when- you ran out of fuel, and of which...

Update Arrow Freighter version 2012 updated (screenshots)

The bay lighting looks pretty spiffy, and I agree maybe some external floodlights couldn't hurt while you're at it.

Enterprise floating in New York Harbor

I also find it tragically amusing how they mention the damage to Enterprise is cosmetic and not structural. ...It's a museum piece. To be looked at. It will never fly again anyway. Cosmetics are all that matter for it now.

Fantastic. Tell that tug captain to bust up a few other pieces of American history while he's at it.

It's where great presidents go to preside over when they die.

    Update Antares 2.5 coming soon

Definitely going to be getting this one. Though, one question. What scientific value would there be in a manned Venusian flyby as opposed to a probe? Or would this be one of those fictional Orbiter "because it's awesome" sort of missions? I'm happy with that too. :P

General Question framerate hanging during LEO time acceleration

Sorry for the bump! Computer specs shouldn't be a problem...I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit with Intel i7-2600, GPU is a GeForce GTX 560-Ti 4GB model, and 8GB of RAM. As for texture addons...that's bit hard to figure out since I never really documented it and it's been a LONG time (perhaps too...

I do like the RPM. Looks like PacMan's finally got himself a spaceship!

    My first unpowered landing

Well, yes, I did. I suppose I should qualify by saying I was going too fast and had to use the airbrakes on final. But having to use the airbrakes doesn't feel very...pro. :P

    My first unpowered landing

Yeah, in my latest mission returning from the moon in the XR2 (using very conservative ISP settings) I ended up at around Mach 3 at 30km over Cape Canaveral, so I just circled over the runway until I was low and slow enough to begin final approach. Even then, though, I ended up too fast since...

Flight Question Attitude MFD oscillating with AMSO

Yes, I did ensure I was near the target attitude before engaging AP but even then it was constantly oscillating around the target (only by a few degrees, but using full thrusters the whole time anyway). Whatever it was, it seems to have stopped reoccurring. :I

Flight Question Attitude MFD oscillating with AMSO

So I'm trying to recreate the Apollo 9 mission according to the scenario pack and tutorial on OH but have run into a bit of a snag: When docked with the LM, Attitude MFD (v3.2) can't seem to handle maintaining a target attitude; it will constantly oscillate with max thrusters around the target...

    Project G42-200 StarLiner

And don't time accelerate. I know it's tempting because the ascent in such a bird is a long process, but if you time accelerate your ascent profile is going to end up very sloppy and inefficient.

    Project G42-200 StarLiner

I guess my first question is...how do the afterburners work right now?
