I am running Orbiter on Lubuntu 24.04 using Wine. Mostly for addon testings instead of full gameplay. It works out of box using build-in Orbiter graphics. No luck yet with DX9 yet, but I think this is my laziness and my fault. Long story short: Orbiter work on Linux using Wine.

Video player is not that useless as you think. Is it using ffmpeg under hood? What about playing URL (video from Youtube or whatever) or getting video from webcam?

Just curious. What functionality XRSound use from irrKlang? Like play wav/mp3/etc. Any audio panning, positioning? What else?

How hard is to move from irrKland to something else? For example SDL2/SDL3 and forget these weird external dependencies.

Simplest way to reinstall is... Kinda Fomtat C: and install on clean HDD/SSD. This is how I "upgrade" my Lubuntu. I take another SSD and install Lubuntu on it. You can do the same. If you don't have spare SSD, then copy your data to external storage. Remove partitions and do clean Install. Then...
