Hey there,

I've got a virgin install of orbiter on a fairly fresh install of windows and it's time for me to start selecting some addons.

So I was wondering what the orbiter community consider essential addons. Of course I have the DGIV, but what else?

Thanks in advance!

Shuttle Fleet, XR Family (must have!), UCGO (Universal Cars and Cargoes), ISS Fleet, International Space Station v3.2 (very nice, but is a frame killer in the last missions!!), Mir (thorton created the most realistic, but it's nice with low-end computers), Planetary textures (they're the basic!). Examples:
http://downloadorbitersim.com/?page_id=42 Here you can find Earth Lvl11/14, Mars Level 11 and Moon Level 11. The other textures aren't too much interesting...
On my addon pages you can find Mercury Lvl 9, Dione and Mimas at Lvl 7, In the mcwoogs addons, you find the Galilean Moons. There are some textures for Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and its moons and for Uranus and Neptune.
And you should add more planets. I love the Outer Planets pack, it's nice for interplanetary missions. You need to dowload IMFD if you want an perfect interplanetary autopilot.

Shuttle Fleet

Actually Shuttle Fleet was taken down by author so read carefully which add-ons need Shuttle Fleet.

Also I'd recomend Ascension Island a.k.a. Widewake International and Energy Project add-on.

I would also recomend the Load MFD, telling you your G-eees.
I really like it.

The first things I always get are: OrbiterSound, Aerobrake MFD, IMFD, DG-IV, XR-2 and 5, UCGO, UMMU 2.0, and the best planet textures my machine can handle:P

I don't recommend the XR5 on extremely low-end machines.... but the XR2 is fine (last i remember i'm having 10-17 FPS on a 2.80 GHZ machine)

...(last i remember i'm having 10-17 FPS on a 2.80 GHZ machine)
But with jarmonik's D3D9 client, now at RC41, fps are way higher, and XR fleet does work with it, so...maybe it's time to "think about it" as a nearly must-have add-on.

I say nearly, because it fails with DGIV-2.

The few MFDs that I immediately install on a new fresh Orbiter:

Aerobrake MFD
Basesync
Launch MFD
Attitude MFD
Rendezvous MFD
IMFD

There are more, but these are essential in my book.

OrbiterSound and UCGO are the two must-have addons for my installations (thank you, Dan!). :)

My favourites are:
Ships
- AMSO
- Shuttle Fleet (when it was avaible)
- International Space Station (but it is a FPS-killer, tough)
- X-15
- Skylab1973
- XR-2
- DG-IV
MFD's
- Load MFD
- Aerobrake MFD
- LunarTransfer MFD
Visual improvements
- Earth L10
- KSC Hires Tiles
- Orbiter Atmospheric Visual Enhancement
- Wideawake
Other
- Screen capture
- State Saver
- UMmu (but it is included in DG-IV)

I would also suggest this: [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4993"]New Runway Texture - Updated[/ame]

How about an external graphics client? Is it worth the hassle?
