I'm looking for recommendations for what's good in the current generation of modern military flight sims. Factors I'm interested in are:

-- flight realism
-- large number of aircraft types
-- combat realism
-- graphics
-- ability to do addons (if such a thing exists)

I haven't even seen what a state-of-the-art PC combat flight sim looks like in many years, so I'm sure there's some really good stuff out there by now.

I miss the good old days of the 1990s when you could walk into a software store and see walls of PC flight sims. I guess they don't make enough money to me mass distributed like that anymore. Everything is game consoles, now.

There is one that does well on all fronts except graphics located here

It has missiles (Heat-seeking), Rockets, Guns, Bombs (250 and 500 pound) and more aircraft out of the box then you can poke a stick at. Even more (some hi-res) aircraft, bases and weapons available through addon pacls

FighterOps is still in development, but they follow most of the current simulator developments of other upcoming combat sims too in thier forum. It's an interesting forum to read on a routine basis. www.fighterops.com

Aw damn just a while ago I had an AMAZING WW2 combat sim on my comp. IT had online multiplayer. Tanks + Fighters + Bombers + Boats. You could organize your own bombing missions and recruit bombers and fighters to defend you. IT was like a neverending battle cuz the point of it is to capture all of the enemies bases (there are like 100 for each map XD). FORGOT THE NAME!!! >:/

Sounds a bit like Battlefield 1942.

Wow, must have missed it on my last scan of their homepage.

Do they already have a German publisher?

At the moment only the russian version has been released. Due to some issues (it was cracked very quickly) they are delaying the international release until they can resolve that issue.

Falcon 4.0 is a fantastic piece of software that I highly recommend. My only displeasure with it is that you can't fly anything else out of the box other than the Falcon aircraft. Still, not a big deal. :)

I recommend Falcon 4.0 together with the free extension: "OpenFalcon 4.5", which is the most complex F16 simulation you can get. It simulates almost the whole aircraft and combat systems and has a great virtual cockpit and ground environment as well as flight environment. Together with TrackIR and the hotas cougar flight stick & lever, makes it an amazing experience.

Anyone try Flanker 2.0? (yea I know its dated, but its latest one I have)

Its pretty nice except you can only fly the Mig 29 or the Flanker 27 / 37

Hmm. I've got Lockon but couldn't get into it... I think I need to give it another go!
