Brazilian anyone?

Is anybody here Portuguese? Or do you have somewhat brazilian in you? I feel like I am one of the only one who does on this forum.

Anyway, I think there's someone called mediCs (or something like that) in this community that lives in Brazil. Then there's another Portuguese orbitonaut from Porto (or Oporto like the bristish call it ).

Notice that people, like myself, are Portuguese but don't appear in the map.

I was in bahia. Near Porto Seguro. Its a pretty nice place to me. My grandmother lives in Annapolis. That is not the best place to go there, but I still like it.

Here is something I remember when I was in Brazil. My mom for instance would tell me to say something and she told me to say todo mundo nu. I had no idea what it meant until some time, but I said it constantly around people in public and all her friends. They all laughed and I finally found out what it meant. Lol. You guys should have seen how I looked.

Bahia is just two states away from where I live (Paraíba). You came in the summer? How much time you spent here? Lol, hope you've seen more that just beaches and girls .

2-1/2 months. Pretty long time to me. My mom visits almost every year because here mom has parkinsins and lives in the ghetto. It is pretty bad. Bumpy dirt roads, dangerous neighborhood, and prostitutes walking in front of her house. Thats how bad it is. That is annapolis though. Porto Seguro is nice on the most part. Although when we were staying at a hotel, we left for the beach and found out later that somebody had got shot directly behind our hotel. Scary stuff. When I asked my mom to go to Rio, she said it was way to dangerous especially because we had valuables. A lot of people are looking for easy pickings. I like Brazil though. Our flight landed in Salvador and we had taken tons of ferrys because of the rivers. It was so annoying. Let me talk about the ride back. It started to storm and we were driving near a cliff, the driver kept falling asleep so I made noises so we don't fly off to a exploding death. Anyways, it was like 3 A.M. and I attempted to stay up to see the sunrise. It was pretty.

Yes, violence is a problem in big cities like Rio and São Paulo, but it's decreasing now. In fact, this kind of thing never happened to me. Poverty is another, and as you've already seen, it's a big one.
I'm sorry to hear about you mother. The world would be a better place if diseases, violence and intolerance didn't exist, but they do, and we must adapt to that.

Yeah. My mom was born in Sao Paulo. She told me lots of stories about when she was little. It was almost unbelievable and not even comparable to my childhood.

Ah Bahia, I'd like to visit there, as I've been told it'd probably be easier to learn to practice my Portuguese (currently non existant), as the people speak slower.

Instead, I get to visit Minas Gerias, as thats where my girlfriends family is from.

Unless you're planning to spend a very short time in Brazil, there's really no big difference in learning portuguese in Bahia, or Minas Gerais. You can start speaking a "crude" (but still able to understand and to speak fairly well) within two, three months tops. This was the time necessary for me to start speaking english six years ago, when I first visited England (by the way, british accent rulez ).
Which city in Minas Gerais is your girlfriend from? A lot of cities in Minas are reference for their beauty, nature and history, like Belo Horizonte and Uberlândia.

You must notice that there are slight differences between Portugal-Portuguese and Brazil-Portuguese, Kveldulf. Once, in Portugal, the government tried to make kind of a mixture between these two kinds of Portuguese, but no one seems to like that. It's almost like the difference between American and Pure British English (accent, word meaning, etc).
I've ever wondered what's easier to learn: Brazilian or Portuguese way to speak, many say is the Brazilian but I'm unable speak like that .

Yes, there's a difference. I was in Portugal once and had a bit of hard time understanding it, but nothing that a little bit of experience can't take care of it (and maybe a dictonary...)
Actually even spanish can be considered as kind of "fork" from the roots of Brazilian-Portuguese and Portugal-Portuguese.
