Anyway, I think there's someone called mediCs (or something like that) in this community that lives in Brazil. Then there's another Portuguese orbitonaut from Porto (or Oporto like the bristish call it).

I learned to speak and understand it quick.Unless you're planning to spend a very short time in Brazil, there's really no big difference in learning portuguese in Bahia, or Minas Gerais. You can start speaking a "crude" (but still able to understand and to speak fairly well) within two, three months tops. This was the time necessary for me to start speaking english six years ago, when I first visited England (by the way, british accent rulez).
