Add-on by JacquesMomo and Pappy2.

Sorry : currently only a French Version, but an English version will be available

soon...

CHANDRA-X is an X-ray space telescope developed by the NASA. It was

launched in 1999 with the Space Shuttle Columbia during STS-93 mission.
CHANDRA is one of the two most efficient X-ray observatories put into the

space.

In 2014, 15 years after its launch, CHANDRA is still operational.

The Inertial Upper Stage or IUS is an upper stage rocket that was developed for

the requirements of satellite launchings with the American Space Shuttle. It

consists of two stages using a solid propergol .
It has been used on 15 occasions with the Shuttle from 1983 to 1999 for

launching many satellites and THE Space Telescope Chandra-X.

This add-on includes :

- Chandra-X satellite

- I.U.S. (or Inertial Upper Stage)

- Shuttle cargo bay's supports for Chandra X

Installation : Simply unzip the zip file into the root folder of your Orbiter.
(Do not forget to check "use folder names")

Some additional add-ons may be installed. Please, reed the documentation for

that.

But you will need :
- Shuttle_Fleet v4.8-R2  by David 413 (for some scenarios)
http://simviation.com/1/browse-Orbiter+Addons-142-1
- Spacecraft3  by Vinka (included with this add-on)
http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3894
- UMmu 3.0  by DanSteph (optional but recommended with the david413's

Shuttle)
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/forum/index.php?page=download

Please read all the documentation that is very interesting and full of lovely

images... even it is in French...
There is also a "flight plan" to allow you to accomplish the mission quite easily.

(in french also)

Update :
- fix the wrong shuttle (thanks to David413)
- minor correction of the manual (still in french... be patient...)

Thanks for the upload!! This'll give me a chance to recreate STS-93, which had one of the most turmoiled launches of the program.

Outstanding meshes and documentation!

I'l do the least I can do and run the mission descriptions through Google translate:

"Space Shuttle Fleet v4.8 Release 2"

==================================

We July 23, 1999.

The Telescope X-ray Observatory Chandra X ray, is embedded in the hold of Columbia.

This is the most sophisticated X-ray telescopes ever built.
It is designed to observe the X-rays in all parts of the universe, and the hot gas
in the remains of stars that have exploded.

The objective of this mission is to orbit Columbia, then deploy and drop
CHANDRA-X, and finally positioning it on its orbital working.

(See the documentation for more information and the recall of certain control buttons)

Press [Ctrl] and [+] (NumPad) to turn the key drivers of Columbia.
Solid rocket motor turns automatically after a few seconds ...

For this scenario, you MUST have installed

the add-on David413

"Space Shuttle Fleet v4.8 Release 2"

(see the documentation explanations)

==================================

Columbia is in orbit, and the gates are open its cargo bay.

The shuttle crew is about to "raise" Chandra-X up to 29 degrees.

After a series of controls Chandra-X, the crew of Columbia will
proceed to the second phase of "wrenching" to its satellite attitude
Deployment 58 degrees relative to the longitudinal axis of the shuttle.

So your mission is to guide the shuttle in line with the release of Chandra-X,
then lift the satellite to its launch, and finally drop all UIS + Chandra-X.

To help, here's a reminder of the control buttons:

[CTRL] + [F8] = Raise the satellite 29 °

(2nd time) = Rise satellite to 58 °

[CTRL] + [F6] = Jettison satellite

[SHIFT] + [F8] = Replacing the swivel support

then:

[F3] and selecting the "IUS_ETG1_CHANDRA-X"

(for monitoring and controlling the satellite)

[CTRL] + [+ numpad] to turn on the engine of the 1st floor of the IUS.

[J] = Dropping the 1st floor of the IUS.

Again [CTRL] + [+ numpad] to turn on the engine of the 2nd floor of the IUS.

[J] = Dropping the 2nd floor of the IUS.

finally:

[K] = Deploying Solar Telescope Chandra X-

[CTRL] + [K] = reverse movement

[G] = Opening visor Telescope Chandra X-

[0 - Insert] (numpad) to turn a laser generator (fiction !!!)

Code:
Space Shuttle Columbia has moved away (actually it's gone |;-))

standoff of all

IUS + Chandra X-which is now

on a 267 x 277 km orbit inclined at 29 °.

Now you have to put the Chandra X-ray telescope on-orbit its scheduled work:

133 000 x 16 000 km with an inclination of 28.5 °.

Turn the first stage solid rocket

IUS, then about 3 minutes later the second floor.

You should position Chandra X-

in an orbit 64 000 × 320 km.

And deploy its solar panels (K key)

and cast off the top floor of the IUS (J key).

Now you have nine days to change the orbit using propulsion engines
main telescope Chandra-X to position it on a new orbit that passes
16 000 × 133 000 km with an inclination of 28.5 °.

This orbit will now be covered

in 64 hours and 18 minutes.

Enjoy the show !!!

and so close to the Earth!

Six distinguished drivers but suspects it borrowed shamelessly GDM parked unattended at the Hangar "Pappy's" and went to watch (spy?) This single telescope of its kind ...

These are Pappy2, Papyref, Nulentout, Vinka, Elphifou and JacquesMomo ...

I remind you the control buttons

Telescope Chandra-X:

[K] = Deployment of solar panels

[CTRL] + [K] = reverse movement

Edit:

If I get some free time this week I will try to go through and clean up the language a bit.

Great Job !!!! I for one still love to see the shuttle fly and STS 93 is one of those that I always wanted to see in orbiter. The night it landed I was watching the late news and they showed a live shot of the orbiter flying over head on the way to KSC. I ran outside and there it was a fireball with a thousand mile smoke trail behind it. It took my breath away. When it passed out of view I went inside and within seven minutes the TV showed a live shot from inside at the pilots heads up and watched that as it landed. Awesome !!!!!! Keep up the great stuff my friend.

Merci beaucoup!! Downloading now.
Barry - you got your wish!

Yes Brian it was a nice surprise too see this new addon. Really looking forward to having the time to fly this and try to duplicate the landing. Seeing the large satellite deploy seems to be my thing. Hopefully someday we'll have a shuttle/centaur and UARS to see fly

Thank you for your encouragement, I am very happy to read your messages ! :thankyou:

@boogabooga
Thank you for translating scenarios ... A complete English version is planned ... Still a little of patience ... :coffee:

@BrianJ
Your compliments go straight to my heart ... Thanks !!!

Chandra X and IUS

Hi there, you add on is great looks fantastic and works brilliant, best looking version in the hanger, I have an addon for you to take a look at and was wondering how I could send you it.
Thanks very much:)

Tiny, tiny wiggle to a exceptional add-on:

The paint scheme is wrong for the era. It can be fixed in the scenario by changing "ORIGINAL" to "MID102". Also, I think "SRB" can be deleted.

Sorry for bumping this but its been a year since this was released and there is still no english documentation. Do you know when we will expect it to arrive when you get the chance?
