Am trying to convert a saved playback into a format that can be played back on Windows Media Player.

Could someone give some advice or point me to a thread on how to do this.

Much appreciated!

A playback doesn't work like that, if you want to do that, you will need a program like FRAPS.

The Playback works on a text document.

The Playback works on a text document.
To clarify that, the record feature records a vessels position and orientation, thruster firings, etc, in a text file. That information can be interpreted by Orbiter when it want to "replay", or more accurately "re-simulate", the recorded flight. No video information is recorded.

use some other software

You must make clear that the recorded flight process is drived by some files in .pos or .att format. So you should take the porcess with some other software, usually it is saved as .avi, then you could change it to any other format you like.

I highly recommend FRAPS. Yes, it is not free, but it isn't pricey either and unlike some shareware or open source recorders, IT JUST PLAIN WORKS WITH ORBITER! It is easy to use and creates a simple AVI file that Windows will be quite happy with. Have fun making your movies!
