Post your favorite sayings. Mine are:
"Epic Fail"
"Fail"
"Make love, Not war, Prepare for both"
"Want to know who your true friends are? Screw up and see who sticks by you"
"I'm a Vampire" (Its an inside joke)
"The tallest blade of grass is always the first one to get cut"

"That's like buying a pig in a poke"

"Ain't she just cute as a button!" ... said to me by my mom on my 18th birthday about a neighbor girl she wanted me to get together with ... and she was. :)

"... and the rest is just gravy."
"Danger! Danger Will Robinson!"
"... and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth."

Here's a quote by our very own Simonpro that absolutely cracked me up:

"M6 varied between a warzone and a playschool. Once in a while it veered into space science related topics, but that was quickly rectified by someone posting something stupid."

...and here's a real error message that popped up the first time I installed DVD Lab 1.3.1:

"An unknown file was not found."

----

Then we have some more of my favorites:

"If it ain't broke, tweak it some more."

"BUY your way to envirionmental purity. BUY your sins away. Remember, the Earth only likes the pollution you PAY for..."

"Propaganda ceases when simple dialogue begins." (J. Ellul)

"A PC is never finished, only between upgrades."

"If it ain't broke, tweak it some more."

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting to get a different result."

...and to sum up, the golden rule of software development, which I wish more upper managers understood:

"People never remember how late a great project was, only that it was great."
"People never remember how early a terrible project was, only that it was terrible."

"I only have one rule. Everyone fights, no one quits. Don't do your job, ill shoot you myself." Starship Troopers

"If it bleeds, we can kill it." Predator watched it last night.

All I can think of right now off the bat.

A lot of good quotes from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas that I like:
"There I was...Mother of God, there I am!"
"Jesus God!"
"We can't stop here. This is bat country."

Other sources of comedy include Family Guy.
Especially the episode where Brian takes Meg to the prom, and when she asks "How do I look, Brian?" He replies, "You sure do, Meg." If I'm asked a question I don't know or have an answer for, I just reply like that. Someone asked what breed of dog I have (She's a mix of a bunch of stuff) and I said, "She sure is."

From Metal Gear Solid 2:
Raiden: "We've managed to avoid drowning!"

A quote from NC State basketball coach, the late Jim Valvano:
"To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And Number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special."

If I think of some more I'll post them, those are just a few favorites.

"The tallest blade of grass is always the first one to get cut"

Can't stand that saying. The point of it seems to be that you should never stand out from the crowd, that you should always blend in. IMO that's a boring way to lead life.

DBeachy1, thanks for the mention. I'd forgotten I'd said that.

My favourite saying: "Don't regret your actions in the past but instead learn from them to make a happier future."

"Life's Hollywood" - meaning everything is fine

"It's all good" - meaning everything is fine

"Living the Dream" - meaning everything is fine

"... and Bob's your aunty's live-in lover" - another way of saying "Bob's your uncle".

"I would never enter a battle of wits with an unarmed man"

"The world is my country, science is my religion." - Huygens

"Fight the power" - Chuck D

"Quickly, bring me a beaker of wine, so that I may wet my mind and say something clever. " - Aristophanes

simonpro, Yogi Berra, Greg Burch, Shakespeare, Dawkins and Groucho Marx are all good sources for witty quotes.

The reply I got when asking a contractor how a difficult project was going:
"Like a cat trying to bury a s:censored:t on a marble floor!"

"Where the mind ends, violence begins"
Which is actualy poorly translated by me. The original goes "Wo der Verstand ended, beginnt die Gewalt", maybe someone can make a better translation...

"Forever" is actually very very long, especially at the end.

"Jump before you say you did" (Прво скочи па реци хоп) - don't boast about your achievements before achieving them in the first place.

"May the neighbour's cow die" (Naj sosedu krava crkne) - a satire on people's selfishness that somehow became a national proverb.

There are two things that are infinite in the life...The universe and human stupidity.....and i am begining to doubt the universe. Albert Einstein

Thou i walk thru the valley of the shadow of death i fear no evil because im the biggest baddest :censored::censored: in the entire valley..

Gen. George S. Patton

"Failure is not an Option"
"Where ever you may be, there you are"
"Into the bold"
"Be Prepared" (yes, I AM an Eagle Scout)
"People may come to a battle talking of peace, but it is ultimately those who have the largest weapons that will have their peace"

My favorite saying is not family friendly, so I don't quote it here (Who is interested to know it, it was said by Pete Steele)

But there is also one by Djikstra, which is some sort of slogan for my life:

I mean, if 10 years from now, when you are doing something quick and dirty, you suddenly visualize that I am looking over your shoulders and say to yourself "Dijkstra would not have liked this", well, that would be enough immortality for me.

I just checked out Pete Steele at

http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/p/peter_steele.html

And there wasn't anything funny or clever in any of them. Unless it's "Instead of slashing my wrists, I just write a bunch of really crummy songs."

The other one is an absolute mystery to me. Who's Djikstra?

Try it here, they don't filter for maximum stupidity.

And Djikstra is a famous computer scientist. When you play a game, you can be sure, his work is involved (Djikstra's algorithm is a famous algorithm for path finding, The popular A* algorithm is an improvement of it)

We use the saying 'Don't count your chickens before they hatch' for that one. ;)

I have his "Structured Programming" text here somewhere. Another beauty from his thoughts on the dreaded GO TO statement:
http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/EWD/transcriptions/EWD02xx/EWD215.html
Since a number of years I am familiar with the observation that the quality of programmers is a decreasing function of the density of go to statements in the programs they produce.
