Just wondering what you guys take on your long distance voyages? For me it's a vespucci D with two DGIVs attached. Do you prefer realism or ease of use? Plausibility or awesome factor?

I like the Vespucci-D also, it's pretty groovey to arrive at your destination with nearly a full tank of fuel. I also use the Helios HETV, but I found her harder to fly. In all fairness though I'd been flying the Vespucci for a while before I tried the Helios.
I've downloaded the James Cook, but haven't flown her yet.

I prefer "plausibly awesome". In other words, I don't much like to fly fantasy technology, so I stay away from the DG, but I like tech that could happen in real life, even if Vegas says it probably won't, at least not anytime soon, such as the Orion nuke-pulse ships or the Perseus nuclear-thermal/electric drive vessels.

I just think fantasy tech makes spaceflight too easy. With a Heinlein-style torch drive, you can fly anywhere in the system without having to worry much about planning or precision. I get a much bigger kick out of maneuvering an Apollo vehicle right into the proper lunar orbit with delta-V to spare than I do zipping around the outer planets with reckless abandon. Feels more like a sim and less like a videogame.

Count me as right there with you Andy44. The tighter the margin the bigger the thrill for me.

Though, I do like to do my fair share of galivanting around the solar system. Not on the whirr of magic wheels mind you; just something that will let me go ahead and try some fancy trajectories, but if it doesn't work out, I have a good bit of DeltaV to keep things going. I really like the Deepstar 2.0. eightymileshigh really put some good background into it to give you things to do, such as the nice landing sites that you can visit with the cool landers you cart around.

I quite like the Clydesdale - it's been around Orbit Hangar for ages now, but it looks pretty good IMHO and it's a lumbering freighter with a huge fuel capacity.

Tach.

Cosmos and deepstar with the DGIV. I like the near real life tech and I like the feedback from the DGIV so mixing the tool is a good way to explore for me.

I'm sticking in LEO for months now, but when I go out into deep space I take Descartes or Deepstar, both together with the Deepstar landers and XR-2.

I always liked and used the Deepstar for deep space missions.
