why do you need something that big?

One use of such super heavy lift capacity would be launching a solar power satellites in one piece. I remember I read somewhere a completed 1GW orbital solar power station would weigh ~10000 tons so you need a huge rocket if you don`t want complicated orbital assembly process. Also for space infrastructure development a serious heavy lift capacity is a must have.

And don`t forget the coolness factor of launching such an earthquacking rocket:speakcool:
