having not released a new version in almost three years, can we consider orbiter as a dead project?

but it does beg the question: how long will the orbiter project live. it's allready almost 10 years old. will it last another 10, 20, 50, forever? with 5th and 6th generation programing languages on their way i suspect that something better will come along at some point in time. however i do not think that will happen so long as we have as healthy a community as we do now.

viva la orbiter!!!

Let's not forget that we were new once too.

The search function is easy but if you have javascript disabled (Which more people seem to be doing these days) it is unusable. And it isn't newbie freindly to start with.

Searching isn't newbie friendly?

Don't tell Google that...

Death ??

New beta
orbiter visualization project
New addons every week
A very active forum
The probe cult ( Hail probe)...

I think that orbiter is alive !!

Or it will be renamed Orbiter 2010. Just like Orbiter 2007 became 2008 and 2008 became 2009.

To quote martins: "No. Orbiter 2007 will be out in 2008 at the earliest. Orbiter 2008 is then targeted for sometime between 2010 and 2020." ;)

Let's keep it on topic. One regular tuesday joke allowed.

Off topic posts moved to random comments thread. Off topic comments removed from posts.

Reminds me of a NASA launch scheduale.

The new Orbiter beta implies some changes, as far as I know.
One of them is the migration to an upgraded C++ version.
And also several other technical and non technical improvements.
Some improvements may not be visible, like the separation of graphics code so new graphic engines can be made as addons, and some others will be evident like texturing of planet.
