Hi everyone
this is just a little question, maybe stupid...
could someone tell me the meaning of this indicator/led/thing/idontknow called MWS shown in the image below?
it appear on DG mk4 in orbiter standard installation but I can't find anything explaining me its meaning. I think it's something related to spacecraft damages, in fact it turn on when re-entering on atmosphere... and almost burning...
thanks

That would be the "Master Warning System". It indicates something has failed or is about to and you should check the detailed warning panel (if applicable). Usaly pressing the MWS turns of the alarm sound and stops the MWS from blinking until another warning appears.

The manual for the XR craft details this. It seems there is no mention of it in the orbiter documentation itself.

Happy Orbiting

If you want to see it light up just empty your fuel tank via the scenario editor.

If MWS goes up on reentry, you are possibly a little bit too hot, because you have a too steep reentry angle. Make sure you don't exceed -1.2° in the Entry Interface (The DGIV has a display to show you this angle while you de-orbit)

thanks for your answers, orbinauts
so, that button is only a "old" warning system that show some problem but not what kind of.

There should be an additional row of lights that points to the system which is causing problems. the MWS is an 'attention getter'.

With the old DG it goes up if you exceed wing stress badly (in a very hard reentry) or some other circumstances which I can't recall. With the XR ships it was used as intended (in the stock DG as we call it it's there mainly for the future development -which happened with the XRs- since you can damage it only if you really want it); that means it will go up if you run out of fuel, damage the landing gear when landing too hard etc etc etc.

Yeah. It does the job of the Master Alarm button indicator in US spacecraft and western aircraft.
