This is the most updated and the most realistic texture for the planet Mercury ever created... The texture was created using mosaics of the planet Mercury with pictures taken by the MESSENGER spacecraft in 2011. The level 9 textures gives the maximum of realism to the planet! See the readme file for instructions.

    Have fun!

Is it level 9 or level 10? - The title says level 10, but description says level 9.

Add-on's title corrected. See the post below.

Level 9! Corrected, it was my failure!

And the file name is wrong, but I'm not going to update, it takes too much time...

What's the texture that you're wanting now?

I know this is a complex subject involving lighting and the specifics of charged coupled devices, but, is this a true color Mercury or was it taken in black and white? I was under the impression that Mercury was reddish...

I think it's almost like that. I never saw a real picture of Mercury like in the picture above, and the pictures of the Mariner 10 and of the MESSENGER are showing a black-and-white planet, so I used two mosaics created by the MESSENGER team, and I don't modified the colors...

Those are narrow band filter - 750 nm (or rather 650-850) wavelength (i.e. monochrome) mosaics.

In fact Mercury is actually a little reddish: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/messenger/multimedia/messenger_news20110616_image1.html

No, I meant the one that comes on the Orbiter download page:

Was not aware of Orb's Sorry.

Does it fix problem areas?

Yes!

So if Rhea is yet in the Forum, what texture could I create? :hmm: I'm loving this area of the addon creation!

There are a lot of other moons in the outer solar system that could be improved, like Triton.

When Juno, Dawn and New Horizons arrive at Jupiter, Ceres and Pluto we'll have some great new images for textures!

Yes. JUNO hasn't a great camera, the JunoCAM is very poor. Triton wasn't completely mapped, but I'll try to create a texture. Pluto, well, we have to wait until the flyby of the New Horizons...

Another great place is Miranda, but just the Voyager 2 mapped the moon, so I can't create a good texture...

OK, I know what's my next creation: Boreal and Austral Auroras in Jupiter!

No. I found a map, but when I convert it the texure becomes level 5. Very low-res!

Perhaps we need to wait until DAWN finishes with its low mapping orbit?

But right now there are no real textures of Vesta, and isn't the imaginary one that comes in the asteroid pack low res anyway?

If there are no better alternatives, then it is still an improvement!

No, the texture of the asteroid pack is better!
Now I'm working with the night lights to Jupiter. I found a trouble! I converted the textures, but when I test the textures, I can't see the night lights... What can I do?

Felipi, in the readme you wrote:

Installation: Unpack the file Mercury.tex in the folder Textures2...

What about the other 2 files?

Mercury_tile.bin
Mercury_tile.tex

you need to unpack the files too. I just updated the readme file of the Mercury Level 8 textures and I forgot this detail...
