New Virtual Space Agency!

How do you scrub a launch after liftoff? Inquiring minds want to know, since in general it means you're scrubbing what remains of the launcher from whatever place its debris landed at.

Just pretend that the launched remark as incorrect.:) The thing is I lost contact with the pilot, so the launch never really happened on "official" records.

Coverups are not a good start for a space agency...

So - My advice (and this is just advice) - STOP. Get your VSA members into a chat room. Talk over key roles and responsibilities for the agency. Work out who will be doing what. Start PLANNING for those missions. Do not launch a single piece of hardware until you have a programme. You can't build a station until you know what it is going to look like at the end, the reason it's going to be in the orbit it's in and what role it will play.

Ive been trying to do that, Ive been saying from the beggining that we should not launch, we are not fully prepared, and ericevan, please could you update the site about the mission, it cannot be a spacestation, like ive said from the beggining.

Right now we should only focus our efforts on seeing who can fly and who cannot, becasue ive given the inclination of the station on the VOSSA forum and then people are saying we will launch to a polar orbit, then when i tell them why we cant launch to a polar orbit, and i again say the inclination, they say we should launch to an equatorial orbit..........what im trying to tell you all is, WE ARE TOTALLY AND FULLY UNPLANNED AND UNORGANISED, sorry to say this even though im part of this VSA, but ITS THE TRUTH, we should sit, and see the following:

-Make a list of pilots on the website.
-Create the mission list for the Space station.
-Choose the orbital elements of the space station(done)
-Coordinate the mission control sector.
-CREATE THE STATION SCHEMATICS(i dont even know what we are going to launch, 1st people give me a rough diagram, then they say MPLM)
-and then we are atleast ready to launch.

And we cannot just say we will launch at the weekend around this time, then scrub the mission after the timer starts, we should be fully planned and ready.

And also one thing is, there are too many departments, All of them are vacant and "coming soon", i seriously think we should scrap it all, All we need are a few heads(maximum limit of 4).

So ericevan, give us a time when all of us will be free, my exams end on 24th, surly by that time you and eli13 could create a draft mission roster for the station, and create a draft version of the station(not a drawing, create one on orbiter)

That was not our fault. There were technical issues, as "mission control" lost contact with Ky. I think his internet connection went down or something.

We've already decided to postpone the launch of the station. The mission we're talking about (STS-200) is just a test. I thought I forwarded you that PM, if not, whoops!:)

We need to have a discussion of this sort. However, how are we going to do it, as you said we live in different time zones.

Stop those bloody excuses. The main problem is, as Nazban already correctly diagnosed, that your enthusiasm drives you away from progress. You claim the first launch was just scrubbed because of a comm fault, but I would say that the comm fault already happened earlier - you refuse to listen to any good advice and just keep on driving things ahead without realizing that you are actually just sitting in a cardboard mock-up and making rocket engine noises with your mouth.

Stop now. Take a deep breath. Take a second one. And then start really at square one. I know that you want a lot. That is no problem but even simulated spaceflight is no pony club. Every tiny thing you want means work by you. Not just doing things, fail and repeat. You can do that outside a VSA, just for trying out if things work.

In a VSA, you need to present professionalism. Even if you are all just bloody amateurs who hardly can tell perigee from apogee, you are expected to not look like one.

Better listen more to Nazban, give your VSA a good diet and remove a lot of the useless positions there. A title that is not having any relation to real work being done or real responsibility, is a useless title.

Otherwise, I can predict you already the fate of your VSA, because I know this vicious circle too well:

1. Wild Enthusiasm
2. Total Confusion
3. Fear and Uncertainty
4. Search for the Guilty
5. Punishment of the Innocent
6. Promotion of the Uninvolved

Better break away from this hamster wheel of VSA death, before it is too late.

What's more, you guys can't even agree on launches amongst your own directors, but instead of discussing it in a private place like your own forums you're posting all your growing pains here for the whole Orbiter forum to see.
If you guys care about public relations and maintaining a professional face I'd move all your planning and discussion off the Orbiter boards.

This thread started out as a notice to the Orbiter community about your new group, and now it's evolved into total confusion, disagreement, and now finger pointing.

We have a launch today,we're going through with it and its a test launch.it will be at 1:00 us eastern standard time.to watch this on the mission control got to:

this is our final decision.

go for launch at T-00:20:00 and counting......

Oh well...plenty of folks tried to help but from what I see zero advice has been taken into consideration.

Good luck with VOSSA. Hope it lasts more then a couple months.

I have looked over your advice. I actually did not see most of it before today. It's like the forums did not alert me to it or something.

However, I agree, we should take a step back and think things out and we will. We will also spend a while planning our space station.

Thanks for all the help!

Also, can VOSSA members move discussions to our own forum at http://www.azrockets.org/vossa/forums/?

Just a hint what I expect of any good VSA in terms of publications, instead of forum arguments and directors:

  • Program descriptions
  • Mission descriptions
  • Proper Mission press releases as announcement.
  • Flight plans, and optionally checklists of the current or at least past missions.
  • Post-Mission analysis and reports
  • Post-mission press releases about the results of the mission.
  • Reliable schedules that last longer than a few hours for asking "who has time to fly this". Who should fly a mission should have time to help preparing his mission in the team.
  • Regular VSA events
  • A good beginner training program to quickly bring new players into space with real missions.
  • Regular astronaut corps status reports and astronaut statistics of the VSA. Ideally with a VSA biography of the astronaut.
  • Nice would be a youtube channel with replays.
It is a lot, but I think once you started such things once and have the tools and patterns ready, it is quickly done and can also be quickly distributed to other players.
