Hi guys,

am I the only one who cannot access directly OH?

if I type https://www.orbithangar.com I get a warning that the site is not safe and if I choose to proceed anyway I endup in a roundcube webmail login page.

If I pick the single addons link then it works as before.

Is that something I did wrong? Is there any major change that passed unnoticed to me?

Thanks in advance :tiphat:

Works fine here. I guess it's something on your end. Maybe some malicious software?

The self-signed certificate expired years ago and was for the wrong domain, thus no HTTPS anymore.

It should be rejected for HTTPS with so many deviations of course.

It's bad that it's the first link that comes out of google anyway

I wonder why? I was never advertised as having SSL (and nginx is listening for it only on port 80). The self signed certificate has been used mainly for admin e-mail accounts.

I think the problem can be solved by adding permanent redirect to http://

It is common today to configure browsers to try https first as default. http is considered unsafe in general.

They need to figure out a way to have Google not index the https site. Or move the https site to another port and shutdown 443. Google ignores the real content on the http site. I can't seem to be able to use Google to find some mods on OH, and the search engine on OH is not as useful as Google in terms of ranking by popularity.

New people can't easily find this stuff. As a newcomer I can't find updated lists of recommended addons. Even for 2010P1. The whole thing is overwhelming to new people. "What mods do I get and how do they work together?"

I'm OCD enough to try every mod and sort out the conflicts and prerequisites (and modify the packages so everything is fully modular in JSGME without having to do manual config edits, etc.). But I'm afraid most newcomers won't put this much work into it and will give up on Orbiter too soon. I want to see the community keep growing. I think updated addon lists and accessible repositories are very important to the success of Orbiter.

You sound like me in 2011.

Prerequisites are an issue, but usually they are declared in the O-H description or in the readme. I've found that it is quite rare for add-ons to conflict with each other. I've found Orbiter version compatibility to be the more serious issue there.

The concept of "recommended" add-ons is going to get murky. Who is the authority to make recommendations? If anything, perhaps the exiting lists should be deleted. Plus there is a lot you can do in Orbiter.

I've been around a while. Tell me what you are interested in, and I can give you my recommendations, if you wish.

I agree on deleting the existing lists. They're kind of outdated and confusing if your new to the simulator.

Maybe make a list of "essential addons". The ones almost everyone has (Dan's addons, D3D9, etc.). But that's basically just the most downloaded files lists on Orbit Hangar. Probably better to just use that rather than maintain a list in the forum.

I've pretty much gone through the entire list of mods for all versions on Orbit Hangar and now have the "perfect installation". Took me a week or two. I'm a happy camper. But admittidly playing 2010P1 right now as I'm enjoying UMMU and UCGO and the DGIV for the first time.

-Orbiter sound.

Done.

I wouldn't go by most downloaded. What I (for example) consider an "essential" add-on has changed a lot since I started. I expect it will for you, too. As you get better, your add-on "needs" will change. Don't assume that just because a lot of people d/l something, you will find it just as useful.
