Hey, hey, now let's not be getting ahead of the game here.

This is only a live test. It's worked out fairly nicely but there are still some kinks to iron out here and there. And we're going to need other DJs, too - otherwise I'll explode after a while.

Just kidding of course. Though i think that this is one of the nicest projects in Orbiter, let's see the "acceptance" it has from the community...

I'm definitely willing to DJ sometime. I have lots of music, though most is things that are lesser known. I can always download for requests and such too.

I will totally revive Pants Free Radio if you get this up and running. It's a 4-hour show on Saturdays that I used to do where I'd ***** about whatever came up, and play some tunes - fun times.

We would also need people to backup for other DJs, in case they can't get on to run the radio. A set aside email address for requests would be useful too, and all the djs could have access to it, that would keep sending in requests simple. (like when supplying the mp3s, etc)

Not an request, but an idea: As this is Orbiter-related, playing audio from spaceflights randomly would be cool. (For Apollo mission this would be a good source: http://www.apolloarchive.com/)

Well on that note, astrosammy, DJ bumps generally have some random sound effects thrown in. That looks like a good resource site for making just such things... so make me some bumps people!

Backup DJs or standby or something would be rather useful, yes. I'm concentrating on the fact that we seem to top out at 7 listeners at the minute, so I think outsourcing to the live 365 server model is going to be a worthwhile operation.

Thanks everyone! That was I think about the best 4 hours I've spent in a while, much fun.

I do need to get a headset for the mic volume. But otherwise that was a pretty nice live test. As I said on-air in closing, my bandwidth at this time of night seems to cap us at about 7 users for now, which will have to do until next week, after I get paid I'll fire some money someone's way and rent a slot on a server with a little stronger upstream connectivity.

So, for now, goodnight, Orbiter Radio / Radio Orbiter / International House of Pancakes. Those of you interested in DJ'ing this first week drop me an email at [email protected] and let me know. I need to know what day and time and I'd like to know what kind of show, though that's not necessary. I'll knock up a schedule of sorts and get back to you when I can with your slot and what you need to broadcast to the server.

There's a preliminary schedule in the works here. Those wanting to DJ may add themselves to this calendar and I'll have a look in the moderation queue and get back to you about it.

Opinions on using this format are welcome and would be much appreciated.

The sound comes through just fine.
You can have Orbiter Radio playing in the back and run Orbiter on top of that.
I recommend disabling your Mp3s though.

You can access the radio stream in something like Winamp and minimise it to tray, too, so it doesn't get in the way. However an MFD has already been discussed, and I'll look into it when we're established.

For now, using an external player is the best solution. And as dgatsoulis said, disable your OrbiterSound's music if you're going to listen and fly. I'd recommend knocking off the ATC audio, too.
