I truly believe in this software. Orbiter could single handedly inspire many generations of future scientist and space explorers and re-inspire old enthusiasts. Dr. Schweiger's concept of applying real time physics and space flight to a computer-based interface that anyone could learn and use in the comfort of their home is brilliant. Had this software been available in school when I was much younger, I know I would have performed much better in my science and physics classes... Honestly and humbly, growing up I thought I understood physics pretty well. After working (and playing) with Orbiter for just three months, my understanding and knowledge has increased incredibly. Learning physics way back in high school was NEVER this much fun!!!
Orbiter should be promoted and distributed/sold to ALL the public and private schools. Thank you Martin Schweiger!!!!!

I don't think you'll find much disagreement here in the forums, you're 'preachin' to the choir' here. I agree with you whole heartedly that it's an amazing piece of software, and it's been wonderful of Dr. Schweiger to share it with us for free. I"ve gone so far as to have donated a few dollars to Dr. Schweiger because sometimes (and excedingly rarely) there's a piece of software that comes down the pike that is truly free and truly wonderul, and one wants to pay for it. Something I rarely do! I think anyone who uses Orbiter, and can afford it, should donate a few dollars to help keep Oribiter going. Also, it would be remiss to not mention the hundreds of addons contributed by the community. Not just spacecraft, but MFD's, modules, external editors, Spacecraft.dll, Multistage.dll, CVEL, etc etc. And I've yet really to run into any addon developer who's asked for money either. So, not only has Dr Schweiger given us a wonderful and educational tool to work/play with, he's inspired an entire community of developers to contribute (freely) as well. If I had the opportunity to vote for Dr Schweiger for Man of the Decade, he'd get my vote.

I've said it other times before, but I'll gladly say it again...

Thank you so much Dr Schweiger for sharing your wonderful software with us so freely.

Amen indeed. It's amazing what is available on the web for people interested in space (and anything else), and Orbiter is more amazing than most things out there.

When I do educational outreach presentations, I always include a couple of "live" Orbiter demos, and kids especially love this. Even if few of them will actually download and start learning Orbiter, I think it plants a seed that there is some really cool stuff to be found in science and technology, and that it's within your reach (though like most worthwhile things, it takes some effort to master it). The fact that it's interactive, that you can control it, change the views, etc. connects with kids' experience with video games, and this makes it much more powerful than watching (say) a video of a shuttle launch, as awesome as that is.

I humbly suggest that whenever you get a chance, show Orbiter to a kid. Don't push it or explain it too much, just show a couple of cool things, and answer any questions as simply as you can. Don't worry too much about age or whatever either. Just plant a seed. You never know when one will sprout!

I agree with all that has been said. In addition to the suggestions the others made I think if you have a website you could mention it and put a link in there. Even one person who just happens to visit your site and checks out Orbiter then it would have been worth it.

Orbiter truly is the best freeware out there! It is easy to use; has a good support base and costs $0; who can argue against that price?

I hope one day Dr. Martin Schweiger will recieve the recognition he deserves for making such absolutely brillant simulator available for the public, for everyone.

In my childhood, as most kids, i was already interested by what was beyond the atmosphere and dreamed about going there.

Unfortunately real life always gets in the way of dreams and now that i way am older i understand it will never happen.

The day i got and tried Orbiter, i was in pure amazement, the child always present in my adult heart resurfaced and i liked very much this software studying as much tutorial as i could to get the hang of it and in the end it was so immersive as i felt it as the closest i will get to the real thing.
It even got me interested in various space research and experience report that i usually overlooked.

For this feeling alone, i can't thank you enough Martin, but i will say it anyways :
Thank you so much for Orbiter.

when i was in kindergarten i didnt watch play school and other childrens programs i was watching documentarys about space flight of course i didnt understand anything that was being said but i enjoyed watching the footage. when i downloaded orbiter i enjoyed it so much that i spent hours looking for the documentarys that i had taped and i watched them until the tape was ruined. juse recently i used orbiter for my science experiment and i got a great mark for it it is truly an amazing program.
Thank you Dr. Schweiger
