Project Poderosa Lunar Lander

I'm surprised at how much Italian I understand. I guess knowing Spanish English and a little bit of French helps.
Can't wait to try it out tonight. Cheers!

The next beta test will be a complete mission, with launch, TLI, lunar landing, lunar departure, rendez-vous , TEI and re-entry with NO crew. We will improve virtual cockpits meshes!

I was actually gonna mention the VC.

Another thing with me is the texture. There's a huge amount of polys (I guess) and, especially coupled with Aurora, I get like 5 fps (for reference, I normally run 20-50). Is there anyway you could knock the poly count down? With the first Poderosa I got good numbers, so maybe something more like that? Or maybe release a second LoRes version? Thanks a lot.

Yes, i know it.. It's my will to reduce the dimensions of the aurora base in the next relases. And that base will have animations, too.
Thank you for your suggestions!

yeah man. it seems all good to me, though I was able to get the capsule out to the moon Apollo 8 style.

Also reentry isn't controllable at all. At least something as good as the old capsule would be nice (though I have to say I really like the CTV or thorton's Soyuz for reentries)

New version of the Aurora Launch Platform, now with animations and 65 per cent mesh reduction, for a better frame rate!

In the next beta test we will reduce 60-65 per cent all the ship dimensions, without quality losses!
See you soon:speakcool:

Looks very good!

Awesome work man! I appreciate it.

One thing I notice is that I can't launch Poderosa I from it because of height difference. Is there any work around for this? Otherwise, everything works great and frame rates are up on the Aurora pad.

To fix that problem you must open orbiter\config\poderosa\pod150.ini
That is what you get:

You'l have to increase 30-35 meters (you'll have to try and see) all the indicated numbers to put the rocket at the right height!

Do you really?
In the third beta test we was not mentioned to go to the moon. The purpose was just to test all the modules in low earth orbit. I'm happy that it works in apollo 8 style!
Was the propellent enaugh for return?

I've gone to the moon now twice with it. the first time I had to add 3% fuel to the 3rd stage to get me too the moon, but the second time I made a nicer ascent and I think I had something like 4.3% left over after the TLI burn. I made it into a high lunar orbit (500km) with something like 80% fuel on the PoderosaII. I didn't try making a landing but I did do some orbital exercises with the Aracne and had a ton of fuel left. Leaving for earth I made a terribly inefficient burn, but made it back with plenty of fuel. The only thing bad I noticed about the trip was that the reentry wasn't realistic at all. But then again that might have been my fault, I didn't notice that hitting 3 helped at all.

Also, on the Modal lander, hitting K and G open up some doors. I'm pretty sure the writing says "Landing" but I can't think of a use for them. Do they house experiments or are they to keep dust kickup down?

They are doors for exmeriment instruments that our astronauts will do on the moon in the official final version of this mission! On that doors there is ATTREZZATURE that is the italian for "equipments"
Thank you for your testing! I really appreciate it!
See you soon for the 4th beta test!

Some more testing tonight. I made it to the lunar surface. I'm pretty sure I had something like 51% fuel left over. When I went to eject the ascent module, it fell onto the moon and I couldn't get it to orbit. Every time that I would apply a thruster (main or RCS) it would immediately fall on its side and not go anywhere. After that, I just used scenario editor to dock it to the PoderosaII. Now I just need to get out of lunar orbit. Can't wait for the new beta!

Yes gone to moon and back. I think I tried landing too.:)

I made succesfull landig!!

The ascent module works fine on my PC! I think that in the old version you are using lunar module and ascent module docking ports are in conflict! In my new version i modified docking ports positions in the rigth way.
The most difficoult maneuvre is the re entry in the mediterranean sea.. hard but not impossible!

The most difficoult maneuvre is the re entry in the mediterranean sea.. hard but not impossible!

You might need a skip reentry to achieve this, since the Mediterranean Sea is pretty far away from the apsis line of the transfer orbit.

The guidance algorithms for skip reentry and such are available in the Internet... I am not aware of any implementation of them as MFD, but it is possible.
