Project Project Rexus - Addon development 101

Day 11 - Wrapping up the project

So, the project is 99.9% complete. There's still one minor issue with an animation, but it doesn't influence the addon too much. It would take quite some time to fix it, but would give no real benefit. I might work this out sometime in the future, but for now I declare this project complete.

A few final words:

I started this project as a complete newbie to add-on development with the goal to demonstrate that learning about add-on development in a reasonable timeframe is possible. I think I can honestly say that I succeeded in this.

Sure, the learning curve is step and you have to dig into a lot of new areas and software if you want to develop your own add-on.
However, let me say that it's nowhere near as hard as one would think it is. Once you have figured out where to start, it's actually pretty straight-forward. There is a very good documentation available with the standard distribution of Orbiter, and a great amount of tutorials and knowledge available on the forum.
And believe me, it is FUN and very rewarding to learn about 3D modelling, C++ programming and 2D graphics editing/texturing. On top of that, these are some very useful skills that can be applied in a lot of other areas.

So, I am certainly glad I did this project and I strongly encourage all of you out there who have refrained from add-on development so far: Give it a try! :tiphat:
