Hi to All who are in the know,
Before you all start replying 'Tuesday' .. in a Maaatt Daaamooonnn. Team America voice, this is NOT about 'when'. :-D

Given that it took less than 2 months after Orbiter 2010 came out, for the first patch to be released. A further 6 months have now gone by since then with no further patch, to address more recently found issues.

Simple question;
Will there be a second patch to Orbiter 2010, or is Martin & the dev team 'holding back' such fixes for the next full release?

Regarding what new features will be in any future release, i realise that is a 'wait & see' ;-)

Many thanks
Al

I think it will depend of the extent of these "fixes".

And even more importantly, how much the API will be modified. New features usually mean important changes in the API.

I missed the whole 2010/p1 release, but I would imagine that the patch is just to fix things that are broken and new functionality will be put in the next version. Orbiter 2006 stood at P1 before 2010 was released, so I doubt that there will be many updates that soon. Martin deserves a break too.

There will surely be new beta release soon. And it's been exactly 5 months since the last one (101016). After Orbiter 100830, there were released 3 public betas, first 4 days after P1 - 100903, next on Sep. 5 - 100905, and the last on Oct. 16 - 101016.

If there is a next stable patch for Orbiter 2010 this year, or a full release, it will be named Orbiter 2011, as it's 2011 now. Martin replied to many bug reports, that they will be addressed in the next beta, so there will be at least a next beta patch in this year.

Martin works on Orbiter as a hobby, so you can never know what to expect. Sometimes there are many versions in a row, sometimes there is a 4 year gap. There's no set routine. I bet not even Martin knows when the next version will be released.

P.S.: There's no 'development team', Martin is the only one working on this. Sure, there are many good add-on developers, but only Martin works on the core.

We have these guys: [Beta Testers] They all contributed to the development of Orbiter.

Otherwise, what you said above was spot on about Martin. Not even he knows when the next release will be. When ever he fancies working on it again is when it will be. Concerning what it will include, again I'm not sure even Martin completely knows other than the bugs he already said would be addressed in the next version. :tiphat:

IIRC, that patch was when local light sources made it's debut, which certainly qualifies as "new functionality".

Yes, by 'dev' i was referring to the beta testers.

Many thanks for the replies :)

I prefer a long wait and interval between new releases.
