I've looked in the manuals and forums and have seen mention of refueling at ISS, but no procedure. Can it be done? How? (This is with the DG)

Thanks!

To refuel the stock DG while I'm docked at a station I generaly use the scenario editor. You just do CTRL+F4, select the scenario editor, click on your DG name, click edit, go to the propellant tab then press fill all.
Also be sure to have ScnEditor in the active modules list on the modules tab of the Orbiter launcher.

I think there are about three different versions of fuel MFD. You transfer fuel from one tank (ISS) to another (DG).

You don't need to be docked to do that and it's no fun!!! Steal all the fuel from the ISS and then try to change attitude... ;)

When using Fuel MFD, remember that the ISS does not carry much fuel.

Thanks, Gary. Is there a way to haul fuel to the ISS as well to build up a store for later use?

You can include a line, in the config file for your ISS (found in the "[MainOrbiterDirectoryName]\config\Vessels" subdirectory):

Maxfuel = x

(where "x" = number of kilograms of propellant, to be carried by ISS)

Your ISS will then always have that much fuel (available to be transferred to your ship, using FuelMFD) at the start of any scenario, as long as the scenario file includes, under the entry for the ISS:

PRPLEVEL 0:1.000

("1.000" means that the scenario will begin with ISS carrying 100% of Maxfuel. You can decrease the amount, with which to start the scenario, if you want. The amount carried, will be depleted as you transfer the fuel to your ship.)

I have my ISS (ProjectAlpha_ISS, actually) config'ed to carry Maxfuel = 50000, which is a bit unrealistic, I suppose, but it is then always available as a refueling station.

The same thing can be done with Mir, and perhaps other space stations.

By default, all ships are refueled when they full stop at any landing pad.

Many ships (the DG-4, for example) override this behavior and require some "special action" to refuel.

OK, I have this fueler thing which comes with a bunch of files. I'm pretty sure the fuelMFD.dll goes into the module/plugins folder. Where does the rest of it go?

Just extract everything to your orbiter main directory. Be sure to have the option to keep the directory structure checked.

If it doesn't work put:
FuelMFD.dll in (orbiter directory)\Modules\Plugin\
FuelMFD.cpp, FuelMFD.dsp, FuelMFD.dsw and FuelMFD.h in (orbiter directory)\OrbiterSDK\samples\FuelMFD
PumOff.wav and PumpOn.wav in(orbiter directory)\Sound\FuelMFD\

And don't forget to activate FuelMFD in the modules tab.

Most add-ons are zipped in such a way that you can unzip the file into your Orbiter root directory, and ensuring that you are keeping the directory structure intact. Depending on the zip utility, that option may be called "Use Folder Names" or "Use Pathnames" or somesuch. When you open the zip (not extract it, just open it in WinZip, or 7-Zip, etc) check to see if the files are in folders. Usually the right column of the file list will show the relative path.

A good practise is to unzip the add-on into a "test" folder, and see if folders are used. If they are you can re-extract to the Orbiter root, and delete the test folder. If folders aren't used, look for a "readme" or other instructions. At last resort, try to place files according to extension. A .cfg in the Config folder, .dll in Modules or Modules/plugin, etc.

You'll probably have to active the module in the Orbiter Launchpad's Modules tab before you can use it.

Yup. I've got that attached to my version of the ISS - It's mostly for replenishing the ISS fuel supplies rather than any docked vehicle.

I have sent up and am building an orbital fuel depot as well.

When you say "building", do you mean you put something up there, quit the program for the night, come back later, fire up saved state and it's still there? Or are you talking about just using scenario editor? i.e. is this "real" building or config building?

And thanks to *everyone* for all the great help!

I have one scenario I've been playing for well over a year. I do edit the scenario file but only to remove debris (Spent stages, etc) or to add in something new (e.g. a new module or ship) which then get sent to the ISS or somewhere else. My scenario file is getting a bit big....

I did start out putting my missions up on the web (see sig!) but that's way behind now!
