Hi all,

My new laptop has both an Intel integrated chipset that functions as a GPU (the default one for low-graphics usage) and a NVIDIA discrete GPU. Now I tried to set the default usage for Orbiter and Orbiter NG as using the discrete GPU in NVIDIA's control panel, but for some reason the setting was not saved and the chipset become the "default GPU" when I open Orbiter, thus forcing me to right-click and choose the discrete GPU option when opening Orbiter. This does not happen in other programs (e.g. Google Earth).

Anyone here knows how to do it? Thanks! :tiphat:

Yeah then probably your gpu turns on automatically when needed. There is some software out there which tells you when its on.

I have seen some applications which are able to detect the nvidia card inspite of optimus but I dont think Orbiter can do that.

Try right clicking Orbiter_ng.exe and selecting "Run with graphics processor", then choose "High-performance NVIDIA processor".
If you have optimus technology then these steps should make the graphics card show up in video settings.

That's what I am doing right now, but it's annoying that I had to remember to right click and choose it every time I opens Orbiter. :compbash:

You can set it in nVidia control panel. I bough a laptop lately and faced the same problem. The only solution I found was setting preferred GPU for 3d applications from 'automatic' to 'nVidia GPU' at nVidia panel. Don't have to right-click Orbiter anymore :)
