Hi all, I have been having a riot in Anim8or for years, but I never figured out the simplest thing, or if it's even possible.

Say I have a project on the go in Anim8or, and I remember I have an excellent pilot figure in another Anim8or file from ages ago.
Every time I try to add the pilot from the whole different Anim8or file, it comes in just fine, but REPLACES the current stuff in my scene.
If I could just somehow bring in meshes from other Anim8or files without losing the current meshes, I don't know what I would do with all the convenience of not having to remodel stuff all the time, holee!
(I'm only smart enough sometimes to start my new project in the old Anim8or scene with the already modeled meshes of desire.)
Often , I'll want to combine the meshes from 3 or 4 old files though, to avoid remodeling generic items, or items that would work so well in my current project.

Could anyone please explain to me (idiot-proof-style) how to bring some of my old work into my new work without losing the new stuff into the ether?

(Yes, I've checked the Manual .PDF, but it doesn't explain what I need to do...or I'm missing something. Mind you it could be a PEBKAC problem! Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair!

Much appreciated if possible.

I guess, when you import something, it will either create a new object or a new window (depends on the file that you're importing). So, you have to copy (or cut) the mesh from the object window or from the window.. window ^^ (you can find these in the task bar)

I hope it makes any sense

I did something like that when working on the DG-Launcher... If I remember well it's a trick using Copy/Paste ; I did encounter the same problem than you at the beginning.

It's possible, I'm sure of that. :P

Thanks folks, I'll have to play with copying and pasting again, I had an inkling about this but haven't made it work yet.

Selecting Object/Import brings any mesh in just fine...replacing, not adding to, the current scene.

I've no experience with Anim8or, so this is a guess. Can you "copy" or "clone" your mesh before using "Object/Import", then "paste" back in after?

N.

After importing the mesh, you still go to the menu "Object".

Your mesh imported will appear below the main project:

Object
Import
Export
Attributes
----------
Mymesh
Importedmesh

That's it. When you Import an object, it doesn't replace your existing mesh. It creates a new object on a new scene. In the "Object" menu you can see the two objects. Then you can copy-paste easily between the two windows.

Anim8or eludes me. :idk:

I just use Blender.

Although this might be helpful seeing as how I rely on Anim8or for reconverting 3DS files.

Oh cool. Thanks guys, I have some 'sperimentin' to do today.
It'll be huge if I can make this simple thing work.
