The ultimate 'life simulation' game is to be made available in just a few hours. I know some of you here have talked about the game now and then for the past couple of years and I want to see who else is planning to buy (or has already preloaded ;)) the game. I may not get it today, but I DO plan to buy it! :)

This game is blasphemy, remember the first comandmant::facts: I am the Lord Thy Probe, who Brought you out of the lands of Earth and arms of slavery, thow shalt have no other Probes before me

:angel::angel::angel:Hail Probe:angel::angel::angel:

Blasphemy? And I thought I was doing good setting up a religious conquer of my home planet in the name of the Probe, followed by spreading my faith across the galaxy :P

But yeah, I haven't encountered any particularly phallic creatures so far, so the content filtering must actually be working, though there are tons of purposefully silly creatures that don't fit in at all.

I have been waiting for Spore for a while. I am going to get my copy (the super special $80 Galactic edition) in a few hours (it is currently 1:30 AM).

As a side note, it will be funny to see all of the Christain, creationist, etc. groups :censored: over this!

Oh, and in case no one has visited YouTube lately:

Actually, Christians and Creationists should have no problem with spore, as spore is a creationist game: It does not know evolution and relies on an intelligent designer. ;)

I've got it. It's pretty good. Definitely addictive - especially in the last, 'Space age'. It doesn't carry the same Maxis feel, I think. It bares no resemblance to The Sims at all - even in the presentation/UI. But still worth picking up if you're into Maxis titles.

However, if you're planning to get Spore, but haven't yet, wait for a patch to be released. Like most of EA's games, it's buggy right off the shelf. Especially if you're an ATI user. ;)

Once I worked for EA (UK) as a games tester. Paid well, but when I wrote them a report on the bugs, they looked at me like I had two heads. Filed it in the memory hole and went ahead with the buggy release.

A radically great game, although somewhat below my expectations.

Good thing, it have enough variety to saturate only around space stage, unlike most other games that get repetitive less than a third in the game.
You go across many different gameplay types rather quickly in the first four stages.

Bad thing, it doesn't do much of the procedural generation i hoped for, so the space stage becomes boring quite fast - you just go around similar planets, finding similar creatures and similar civilizations, doing same things over and over again to unlock slightly better tools once you do it a hundred more times.
Great scale, yet variety saturation is rather quick.

As i understand, it is supposed to upload and download the creations from all over the players of that game, thus providing variety. If true, then it may be good to wait a bit to get variety up into interesting levels.

And i've only noticed one bug, at the start of the space stage - the buttons ceased to press, fixed by saving and restarting.

I still have not got spore :( (I am getting this and mercenaries 2)

What is the minimum time you must spend in each stage?

I dont think there is and with what I have read on the internet it says you can skip stages any way (If you want to)

None, and getting from cell to space stage is ridiculously fast. I've spent less than four hours to get to space, with mixed military/religious conquer, on hard. And I didn't rush particularly, either.

You can, after you've passed every stage.

ok good to know I should have the game later on today/tomorrow

Wow. You guys are making me reconsider getting this game. :P I already found out when I got the Spore Creator Creator trial that the procedural generation really isn't that great, and now you guys tell me that the gameplay is really fast. I'm wondering if it really is worth $50 for me to play through the game in a couple of hours and lose interest in it.
Someone please tell me it's worth it!

If only I had infinite time and cash...So many games I want, so little time. I bet within a week, the Sporepedia is going to be jam packed with stuff. I can't wait to pick it up later and just scope what everyone else did.

That's not really the case. Getting to the space stage is fast, but that's where the game pretty much begins. There's a lot more to do then than the earlier stages, communication with other species is much more developed, as is the management of your empire. Warfare is also more complex. For example, if you need a planet, you can just fly down to the planet and destroy every city until all sentient life is eradicated and then claim the planet, or you can just blow the planet up with a giant laser, or you can reverse-terraform it by purposefully applying the wrong terraforming tools, or you can just crash a giant asteroid into it. Or, if you're not feeling particularly violent, establish a trade route and eventually buy the star system. The galaxy is huge (approx. 500 000 stars), so the game pretty much never ends at this stage. The end goal is to reach the centre of the galaxy, which is protected by a very powerful empire that declares war on you for violating their territory, but besides that it's really a free game with no defined goals besides general expansion.
