It turns out that being in an area that is in the process of being seized by a hostile foreign entity can be detrimental to your health.

Is that an F-302 in the upper part of the "HOSTILE TAKEOVER" pic? If so, where'd the smoke come from? it doesn't have hover engines...

Why yes, it is. The smoke came from a Shuttle-A hovering nearby (I needed its smoke for the battlefield )
