A while ago I tried the Grand Flag Challenge

but I burned up in Venus's thick atmosphere and I'm wondering how you reenter the Venus Atmosphere.

If possible could somebody show a replay so I can see what you did to reenter.

Thanks

Oops about the HTML thing I'm quiet new to Orbiter Forum

You enter it at a very shallow angle. If your velocity is too high, you do several skips. The venus atmosphere gets really dense really fast, so you can't enter as steeply as you can on earth.

In my opinion Venus is the worst planet to make a reentry. I've been there (I think) 3 or 4 times and It seems to me that the best method is a direct reentry. If you go there don't do an orbit insert, just make the reentry at first.

(Sorry for my english)

Yeah well I'm using the XR2 but I have to align planes with Shruka and alough I'm using IMFD I can't get enough accuracy using base aproach. Gonna try soon with the venus decent scenario but with a XR2 there instead.:tiphat:

The Venus decent has already aligned planes with Shruka so I'm good with Venus decent

Part of the problem is that the Shukra is a vessel, not a base, and it can move. Just get "in the ballpark" during approach, and use banking during the re-entry to line up (use Align Planes MFD to check your alignment).

Thanks Tommy, Shruka dosn't seem to move for me though. What I did was deorbit about on the other side of Venus till periapsis 100 km and then reentered at 30 deegrees AOA but still burnt up.

Edit: At 3000 Celsius nose temperature.

When I attempted to land on Venus with an XR2 on a direct reentry from my Earth to Venus Transfer orbit, I was able to get my velocity down to 0 m/s hovering just over the landing spot I wanted to land on. But when I deployed my landing gear, EVERYTHING overheated and melted within seconds of starting the deployment cycle and I crashed. My landing gear didn't even get the whole way down before things started failing.

From entry interface (0.05 G) until landing gear deployment hovering at 100 m altitude took me nearly 3 hours with no time acceleration.

I found Titan to be a much more interesting place to visit. :)

Could you give me a insight on how you did it cause I am :uhh:

EDIT: Anyway if I use orelux, I could land on Venus without the gear melting by finding the tallest peak.
Venera did it right?
