Hi.
my xr2 is stuck on venus. i renentered fine but on the final landing when i opened my landing gear i got a tempreture warning so i closed them and was forced to do a belly landing. I survived but cannot take off now. I dont know how to get back into orbit. I have plenty of fuel and 6 days of oxygen. I have the arrow in orbit around venus. Can any one help me in saving my vessel? I have one idea that i could use the arrow to drop a UCGO base down using basesync mfd but i dont know how to select my ship. can any one save my crew?

The atmospheric density of Venus is so great that the engines of the XR-2 can't overcome it.

Of course, in the real world any landing on Venus would probably result in the spacecraft popping like an egg under the pressure and being destroyed by the corrosive atmosphere and baked by the high temperature.

Shouldn't have landed in the first place.
With 9.2 Mpa of pressure on the Venusian surface, it will take some serious engine to take off.

You can cheat ofcourse.

Open the Config\XR2RavenstarPrefs.cfg file and find the line that says:

Code:
EnableATMThrustReduction=1

Change it to zero and you should be able to take off just fine. Don't forget fix the damaged systems when you dock with the Arrow.

There should be a UCGO crate with a helium balloon for getting your XR from Venus into the higher atmosphere... why did nobody yet make such a crate?

then i guess your crew has six days to find inner peace and prepare for the greatest journey

We discussed that briefly on IRC and wondered if this -> [ame="http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5092"]JELAIR-HotAirBalloon(UCGOandUMmu)[/ame] <- Would work on Venus.... It would need to lift the XR-2 to a point where the engines could overcome the atmosphere..... it wouldn't be pretty!

Almost ready. Just performing some test flights:
Just in case the JELAIR doesn't work.

so true!
Is there a way to fix the broken systems without having to edit the senario document ?

What systems are broken? I don't believe that the XR-2 models broken systems for sitting on Venus.... unless the landing was particularly bad.

How about individual ballons that can bring UMMUs to a height where they can put themselves into orbit with turbo packs and be rescued, of course there would have to be something like an arrow freighter nearby,

the gear got damaged for some reason. i touched down at 4.32m/s.

maby they got damaged by tempreture when i briefly opened them?

that's 840 Feet per minute which is a pretty hefty touch down speed. No wonder your gear is damaged.

i'm assuming that the bottom is damaged from landing with no gear deployed. probably can't open hover doors, not that it would matter. there used to be someone working on a damage and EVA repair MFD wasn't there? I wonder what ever happened to that

i thought a touch down at 4m/s was ok? In the manual i think it said gear fails at 7m/s

That was Xyon and the XR Rolling Repair (XRRR)

There are several problems with repairing a belly landed XR-2 with no support systems in place (cranes, etc). The first is EVA'ing someone. Those suits won't last long on Venus, the atmosphere is so dense that an exosuit is going to be required and how would you get to the gear as its under the XR itself.

Variable with weight. You said that 'there is a lot of fuel on board'. That increases the weight and so means you can't land with as high a vertical component. Most airliners land with ~200fpm. Yours was around 840.

unless i'm misunderstanding you didn't land on the gears, you said you got a temperature warning and closed them, meaning you did a belly landing, so you can't use them to lift yourself like a hydraulic, you're sitting on the hatches, they are stuck closed and have failed

hmm should i abandon ship? and if so what should i send down to get the crew?

just like hover doors typically fail when you do a belly landing

correct i did do i belly landing however my gear is damaged. I think it may br due to the tempreture when i opened them

Use the ship to sustain the crew. Send down something that'll actually survive in Venus harsh landscape and has an aersospike engine to power out of that thick atmosphere and back into orbit.
