I've been flying round a good bit in the Ravenstar and I notice that there is a weird little almost-moan-whimpering sound in the background noises. The first time I noticed it I thought that my crew was dying...Hysterically checked the O2 and G forces but everything was cool. Then, because it was Halloween and Marvin was visiting I though it was him. Wrong again. What is it? Machinery? It still startles me when I'm working on Latin exercises (don't ask) on a long cruise. It's really neat because it drives me nuts.:)

Possibly realism has overwhelmed you. I would venture as far as to guess air flow, accidental fuel dumping, venting of any kind, retraction of gear and instruments, little brother in other room, or even the engines (I go to the moon and don't realize that I have the engines on EVER so slightly, next thing I know I am bouncing off of the moon at five times my estimated speed and a fifth of my estimated fuel supply).

Hi bill, I've moved your post to the support area. I made some different engine & rcs effects for the xr2 but the ambient background noises should be the same as the XR1 so do you get the same thing with that ship? Its most definately not a deliberate thing, an effect for the crew dying would have been a great idea though.

That would be quite realistic. I am compiling a large sound pack of ambient radio chat. I am recording them with my friend using the crappiest sound equipment we can find (makes it sound authentic ;)). Anyone done this already?

If the sound runs continuously it is probably one of two things: 1) the APU sound, or 2) the default air circulation sound. If the APU is running you can shut it down by clicking the red APU button on the panel or you can press CTRL-A. If the APU is off and you still hear it, it is probably the default OrbiterSound air circulation sound.

Oh yeah, I forgot the APU. I always like the startup APU sound, like a jet engine charging up. And I would place my money on air circulation sound, it is default in all craft so if the problem persists in many craft that is your answer (probably).

funny noise

Haven't flown the XR1 but it's not continuous, definitely not the APU (I'm verrry stingy with that, so it just must be a new ambient sound. Cool with me.

Aw, nah, you're all wrong. That's Martin getting sucked into the SCRAMs. :P

It could be a soundpack you've got. What is your OrbiterSound "radio" tuned to?

I found the sound Bill LeClere is talking about. It's scared me a couple times too. In the sound folder open the XR2Ravenstar Folder and play the sound file named "Amb7". It sounds like something turning off or a system warning or something.

Ambient sounds. Good for realism, bad for playing in deep space at night in the dark. I remember i jumped the first time I did a cold startup with the DGIV. I didn't expect the WOOSHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

Yeah, turn it onto repeat and it sounds like a weak klaxon thing.
