Both have their ups and downs but I want to know what you like better. I'm 50/50. The DGIV is very versatile and has tremendous visual effects but it can be too resilient. The XR2 has the best visual model I've ever seen in Orbiter and is much easier to use than the DGIV but its on board computer is lacking.

I like both so I cant really vote

The XR2 easier to use than the DGIV??? Are you out of your mind?! The XR2 is the most complex ship I hve ever flown, and yet I still think the DGIV is easier to fly!!

Same here. I like both of them equaly

I think it is easier because the computer is more visually geared even though it isn't as capable.

I think pilot the DGIV is easier, but XR2 has got better autopilots. Anyway I vote DGIV because when I do high G turns with XR2 it breaks up.

Doesn't this make it harder to fly? ;)

I voted XR2 just because the visual ship tipped it off the blade of a knife. Although I really like both, and use both equally.

I also voted the XR2. It's a bit more challenging, had a few more "things to do" speaking from a pretend stand point. I like the scram over the turbo mode in the DGIV that you just flick on and leave alone. And the external design, fit and quality are in a class by itself. What I do like better about the DGIV is I think Dan did a better (took more time?) job at fitting the reentry heating effect to the primary hull and it's fade in/out "appears" to be more gradual as well as it's boundaries appear to feather out. Whereas the XR2's effect looks clumsy and sharp at it's edges.
Overall I also like the computer onboard the DGIV better. Not necessarily for the auto pilots but there are more, useful modes. 4-5 pages of damage reporting is pretty useless, IMO. I don't like the DGIV's PROnnnSPECnn approach to access the computer. And I like the XR2's "thermal" status page. AH hell ... this is turning into a "which is better, blonds, redheads, or brunets" there are really good things about both ... (talking delta's now ;)) But I do have to say this .. since shortly before the XR2 came out I've not been piloting the DGIV.

question: "wow - why did you vote for the XR2 again?"
answer: The areas where it exceeds, it does so by a far greater margin.

Both are interesting addons to fly around, while i am more used to the DG4 functions for now, overall i prefer the XR2 because of the 3D virtual cockpit and so i am learning currently how to use the XR2 correctly.

I always feel more immersion when moving my "head" around and not having the 2D panels following, 3d cockpit is an important factor to immersion, even if not fully clickable, its presence definitively help.

Maybe that's a reason i have not totally abandonned the stock DeltaGlider for the DG4, as i am always fond of the 3D cockpit of it that is lacking from the DG4.

I'm going to go with the DGIV, just because. I love the XR2's modeling job and whatnot, but the DGIV is my baby. ;)

Patient: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this."

Doctor: "Well, don't do it then."

Patient: "Haha, but if I tell you I need to do this *ouch I did it*"

Doctor: "Then... Alright... take this pills for 2 weeks and go home."

Conclusion: if you want train your acrobatic skills then buy an Extra300S. Or a DGIV!:P

DGIV will always have a place in my heart as the vehicle that really got me into Orbiter. Lunar return flights, TransX flights, and a large library of excellent scenarios has made the DGIV legendary. That being said, the XR2 represents such a massive advance in so many aspects of Orbiter vehicles, it sets a new standard. DGIV=F15, XR2=F22
