Prior to releasing an entirely new Shuttle Fleet Package and Expansion Pack, here is version V4.1.1 of the Space Shuttle Fleet. This package should be installed over the existing Shuttle Fleet V4.0.1 package available on Orbit Hangar. Notes on V4.1.1: Recently I found the time to incorporate the IK version of the RMS arm (based upon a review of the previously released “Space Shuttle Deluxe”). Additionally, while working on the RMS arm I have provided an elbow camera view from the RMS arm. Finally, I would prefer that when incorporating Donamy's various expansion pack items for various missions, I wouldn't have to create specific configuration files for his add-on items but rather that they would work with modifications to the fleet scenarios. Additionally, many users have requested the ability to grapple and re-stow various items in the shuttle payload bay. To meet both of these needs, I have added the ability to load items without modification to their configuration files and have provided multiple payload attachment points in the payload bay. The RMS dialog box recognizes these new attachment points. The manual details how to add third party add-ons to the bay and how the various attachment points work with these new add-ons. Prior to the release of this new package, I released two individual beta packages; these have been included into this version and include the IK development model and a change to the thrusters when looking through the ODS centerline camera. Over the years I have always wanted to have a more realistic SRB with regards to actually deploying parachutes before splashing down in the ocean. I have made the first attempt at incorporating this ability in V4.1.1, however it is still pretty rough. Further improvements await improvements in my 3D modeling abilities, but for now you can follow the SRBs down as chutes are deployed. Finally, the drag chute that is deployed during landing roll-out has been replaced with the add-on created by Arvydas Četyrkovskis (“Kukanotas”) with his permission. Thanks to "Garyw" and "BenSisko" on the Orbiter-Forum for beta testing some of these changes.

How does this work with the existing expansion paks, like STS126, which calls for V4.0.1?
Also, when the entire new Fleet and Expansion paks are released, will they still work with that one also?
Thanks for the updates
Rafael

RafaelCE,
Works just fine with the expansion packs and all of David413's v4.0.1 shuttles, if they have been correctly installed. I've just flown the patch with scenarios from STS-114 through STS-126. Read the .pdf file on the v4.1.1 Fleet before installation. It's pretty straightforward.

Ben

Thanks Ben.
I wonder if you installed this version or just unzipped on top of the previously installed version.
Did you also use the ISS Fleet V2.1.0 or the Pirs V2 version?
I'm not that familiar with those versions. In the past, a new release usually meant start from orbiter base all over again.
Thanks again!

David413 suggests installing over a clean Orbiter base. I first installed the v4.1.1 patch over my v4.0.1 Shuttle Fleet as per the readme in the .zip file. Just unzipping it does the trick. Then I manually installed the ISS Fleet v2.1.0 (not Pirs v2) because I have several custom scenarios in my package that I didn't want overwritten. You should have no problems. Just make sure you have correctly installed the expansion packs and edited the config files according to the instructions in the respective .pdf's.

Ben

Now that I've looked at it, I may upgrade to the Pirs v2!

I've been trying my hand at flying the Shuttle Fleet, and have been overall pleased by its performance. However. After downloading the patch, on the launch pad the OBSS is jutting out of the payload bay at a 90 degree angle. I have no ideas about how that came up - would you have a solution for that?

Please read the included manual, it addresses the changes in the attachment points and includes a brief tutorial on how to attach items in the bay.

In the "Config file/spacecraft/OBBS file" change the data under the meshname to the following:

Size = 10
Empty_Mass = 1627
Fuel_Mass = 0
Isp = 0
Main_Thrust = 0
Retro_Thrust = 0
Hover_Thrust = 0
Attitude_Thrust = 0
Cross_Section = (16.,16.,16.)
LAND_PT1 = (0,-2,1)
LAND_PT2 = (-1,-2,-1)
LAND_PT3 = (1,-2,-1)

Visible = 1
CW_Z_POS = 0.2
CW_Z_NEG = 0.5
CW_X = 1.5
CW_Y = 1.5

That should fix the problem. And like david said, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS !
:cheers:

Heh sorry - I didn't know any the documentation was changed or added. I only read on OH what the changes were.

In the "Config file/spacecraft/OBBS file" change the data ...

Part of the changes to V4.1.1 includes the ability to change the shuttle's attachment points such that no changes to other people's add-ons is necessary. Some of your own advice you should take; read the new instructions...

:P

LOL; point well taken ! ;)

By the way David, couple questions;

1. In the new robotic arm control box is there any way of adding which particular payload is attached to the specific attachment point so you can see which payload you will be releasing ?

2. Looking very much forward to seeing the new fleet come out; any ETA yet ?

Great work as always !

The various attachments (i.e., "0", "2", "3") are the three attachments that are controllable (apparently the documentation needs clarification); the full blown fleet release should be in a day or two, as I'm just working on the SRB parachute systems. I may delay release based upon the apparent defects in the updated documentation...
