Question A cross on the map...

Well, actually he said "talked about for decades, remembered for centuries, written about for millennia."

There's plenty of things one can do without a nuke that'll do that.

If history's anything to go by, this usually involves slaughtering huge numbers of humans!

Let's assume i have a 10 megaton ICBM in my barn and a hatred for all humanity in my heart.
Where can i send that death machine to get maximum damage?
Maximum damage either as in setback to all mankind, or as something everyone would talk for decades, remember for centuries, write about for millennia.

Where would you have sent it (assuming the ability to quicksave/load life to avoid moral problems)?
nuke_you.php

Your own home town would be a good start... :P

Yeah, nuking the capital city of any major nuclear power is a good way to use your single 10 megaton nuke to start off a nuclear war. Which will then kill many more people than the single nuke could. Of course, a nuclear war might not be something that gets talked about for very many decades, or written about for very many millennia. There might not be anyone still around to talk about it.

On the other hand, nukes are fun.

Hmm... Cool link.

If you're into major vandalism, blow away the top of Mount Everest. For some time it will be referred as "once the world's tallest mountain".

Wow, never thought of that. Kind of like the Taliban in their statue-smashing heyday. I would take it a bit farther and try to alter the appearance of the Moon's nearside, so that everyone has to see my vandalism forever, but it's hard to do with only a single warhead.

Maybe if you put it inside a giant flourescent pink paintball, you could make a big pink splotch on the Sea of Tranquility.

There might not be anyone still around to talk about it.

But maybe some superintelligent turtles would wonder about the high radiation levels and debris in certain rock strata. ;)

If anyone does live through such an event, they will likly be the simple subsistance peoples, far away from major poulation centers. Better buy that house on an atoll in the pacific...

There will always be survivours. You can't wipe out all human life even with all the nukes on the planet.

Not directly, at least.

Radiation fallout may take it's toll, but one can look to Chernobyl to see how easily life adapts. With less people around, animals will flourish.

which reminds me, I NEED to get fallout 3 one of these days...

Anyways, Switzerland is luckily too small to be marked correctly on that map. The X points somewhere between italy and france, southwest of switzerland. But it's still close enough as it is...

Nice trick with that PHP script. For a moment I thought you were seriously claiming that the Benelux is the best place to attack. A bit scary, as this is exactly the day when the civil defense siren is tested here.

One of China's major cities? They've got more than enough people! Or South-East Asia (though it might irradiate Australia as well). Or Afghanistan - country is a basketcase anyway.

No. If you whack South East Asia most of the radiaiton cloud will go north on the prevaliling winds. Not many people for it to kill. Afghanistan is a pointless target although it would be nice method to clear up the area. if you want maximum death and destruction you want somewhere in europe.

Have you guys ever tried playing Defcon by Introversion Software? Now, if you want a serious nuclear war...

If you really want to be remembered for millenia, you could drop that puppy on Israel. But I don't recommend doing that, as you do not want the Almighty breathing down your neck.

I think if a nuke was detonated anywhere, at least anywhere in the northern hemisphere, it would cause major conflict, if not a nuclear war.

We remember things from millenia ago through even oral stories. If someone were to write this down, it would be even more easily recorded. Even if no history was recorded of this event, the physical evidence would be overwhelming.

But I don't recommend doing that, as you do not want the Almighty breathing down your neck.

I think you'll have him breathing down your neck anyways if you drop a nuke just for the fun of it... ;) (or drop it for whatever reasons)

The alleged allmighty has created more wars and destruction than a single 10mt nuke could do.

Really? In a few thousand years the radiation would disspate and veggitation would grow over the ruins. There wouldn't be much left to see.

100-200 years and most modern structures, without maintainance, would come crashing down. Add to that structural damage from the bomb.

I am talking about smaller artifacts, bits of charred bone, shock glass (Trinitites, I think), evidence of nuclear damage in pieces of rubble, etc.

Archeologists do a good job of putting the past back together.

Funny that that cross is excactly over Limburg-Holland. Home of Geert Wilders. Thanks for sharing my hatred.
