Hi.

I just downloaded Orbiter v. 060929.

Ive been flying around and I figured that I needed a joystick which I am
waiting for now to catch.
So, when Im waiting I dicided to download some addons, like ships.

I download the addon, lay it inside the Orbiter "main" map and when I shall press "extract it here" with my win rar it shows up a fail, no files will be "extracted"

So, im woundering, what have I done wrong? :(

Do you have a corrupt download perhaps?

First, instead of trying to install them into Orbiter, just try extracting them to your desktop.

Do they extract there?

If not, then there is something wrong with the archive so best solution would be to redownload.

As for installing any add ons the usual procedure is to extract to the orbiter root folder.

For example, if you have orbiter at C:\orbiter, you extract the files to C:\orbiter, you wont 'see' the files you've extracted as they have now buried themselves in the various folders that they need to be in. Make sure to read the documentation (most likely in the doc folder) to see if you need to do anything else or if you need to download any other support files for the add on.

I tried extracting them at the deskop, it worked.

At the doc I found this:
Installation:
Unzip the archive into your main Orbiter folder. Make sure the option "Use Folder Names" is turned on.

will the same thing happen in the orbit map as it did at the deskop or will the files just be there in the main map?

:welcome: to the forum!

I'll assume by map you mean folder.
It would be very helpfull if you could post the error message winrar gives you. It might be you lack write permissions in the folder.

You're getting the "No Access" message because you're running Windows Vista and you're trying to modify files in the "Program Files" directory without being administrator. Either move Orbiter outside of the "Program Files" folder OR run the extraction process AS Administrator.

Thanks for the answer!

I moved the Orbiter main map from "program files" to deskop.
Now I finally can extract the file, but when I shall start the
new addon, it says: We need to turn of this program, closing the program orbiter.exe

what wrong now?

Try installing Orbiter to a top-level directory like C:\Orbiter. Then install your add-ons to the same directory; that should work fine under Vista.

You may have scenarios which came with the addons you put in that require yet other addons which crashes Orbiter. Try the OrbiterDiagnostic program. It will report most problems which keep Orbiter from running.
