This is fun and not too bad, I'd say it's 50/50 on accuracy - The landing at the end just makes me cringe though!

What's the big deal? It's just a flying brick with wings, right?

Seriously, though, speedbrakes AND pitching up to that angle? Falling brick with wings would've been more like it.

I would have to add 2001 and 2010. THAT is space exploration at it's finest!

Agreed! In 2010, when David Bowman turned into an image of an unborn child to show Heywood Floyd what he was talking about, that was just a major What-the-Hell moment. Fantastic.

Hasn't anyone seen Contact? Jodie Foster rocks in that movie, and the shot of the Vega system took my breath away.

Apollo 13, hands down. Simply a spectacular film.

Boy this was a tough poll, but I picked Armageddon. I was really impressed with all the points Armageddon made and the wide range of Space information it pointed out. I mean yeah ok the X71 isn't the most realistic rocket on the planet but heck I think it was worthy for the movie. At least a non space enthusiast can watch the movie and have an idea of what would be done in real world. :speakcool:

Oh please, PLEASE tell me that's sarcasm.

I know!! The spaceflight is almost as realistic as Fugitive Alien!!

Man, that should've made the list too...

;)

I can't vote. Since there is In the Shadow of the Moon, Apollo 13 has become almost boring. And since there is the 4,5 hour Discovery Channel When we Left Earth, anything else has become absolutely insignificant to my taste. When we Left Earth is absolutely breath-taking. It has become my number one instantly over anything else that tried to show space exploration on TV. It beats In the Shadow of the Moon very easily to my taste. The Apollo part, but also the Shuttle part is just awesome...

I know the problem. Since I have the DVD Box at home, I also find out that my can't watch it often enough for not finding new details inside it.

About the Shuttle part: Watch the part with the SSME explosion. Notice how the flame became instable just a split second earlier. And then read in a book how a Mission Specialist annoys the pilot a whole launch long with "How are the engines?". He had also seen the explosion and remembered the instable flame. From the overhead window, he was able to watch the flames, and in higher altitude, they started to flicker. He thought something could be wrong with the engines. Later missions got a briefing about this effect, because the MS was perfectly right with his observation and paid attention, but he did not know about the effect of altitude.

I actually saw When We Left Earth when it premiered in Discovery on June of last year. The footage was so awesome! :censored: I am really thinking of buying the DVD because unlike other documentaries which only cover one part of NASA's programs, When We Left Earth covers all of NASA's programs with interviews from the real guys who have "been there, done that".

IMHO, I think Apollo 13 is still a great movie. The drama, special effects, and accuracy are excellent.
