Gaming O-F Dedicated FSX Server

When is everyone free this weekend?

Anyone wanna fly, I'm on right now.

I'll be on later tonight, probably around 9 pm EDT at the earliest

is this server still running?

i got FSX and was looking for a good multiplayer server, one with a good community spirit sort of thing

i used to be with manchester virtual, but they've dissappeared now, and i cant seem to find them again (maybe they broke up?)

anyway, im hoping to do some ATC sessions with some fun loving orbinauts!

It is as far as I know...

Well, unfortunately the O-F server doesn't really fit the bill for that. It's empty 95% of the time, and we rarely have more than a few people on at a time.

We don't usually have enough people to make ATC worthwhile or fun for anyone involved :(

Assuming you're not wanting to go all the way to VATSIM (which would be great for "realistic" flying but too big to really have a "community spirit") you might want to look at IFlyOnline. They're a decently active community and have fairly regular scheduled events with several controllers online at a time. I was active there for a time, but unfortunately the majority of their events are timed for people on the east coast, and I can't get off that early during the week.

well, that looks a little too strict for me... an entrance exam? too serious

when will the next session here be? and do you use teamspeak?

thanks

The exam isn't difficult, and all of the questions it asks can be answered by looking elsewhere on the site. The exam ensures that people who join the group are actually willing to spend some time learning to be a good member of the community and don't just want a busy server that they can go randomly flying around in an F-18 on.

The next session will be whenever people are on. You might want to hang out in the Orbiter-Forum IRC chat, usually people will say something there when they're doing something on the FSX server.

Next time I'm on I will be able to chat during play, I got a laptop in my room.

i could host one, im in the UK, so connection may be a little slow for people over the pond, but it'll still be better than gamespy (not sure if voice goes through another server).

and if needs be, i can ATC if there's enough people, always enjoyed it

hope yo see you guys soon!

The O-F server isn't on gamespy, that's why it has special connection instructions in the first post on this thread. In my experience, voice quality has been generally high on FSX, far better than I remember TS being the last time I used it.

There is a Ventrilo (again, better than TS) server at the same IP as the FSX server, but it doesn't get much use because it's easier to just use the FSX radios.

I don't have any problem with people doing ATC, as long as you at least sound like you know what you're doing.

I usually end up doing ATC when it's needed, since the server is at KPAE and that's the airport I fly out of IRL, so I'm familiar with the airport and the real life procedures, at least as far as VFR operations are concerned.

ive done ATC a few times, and learned from the best non-professionals ive ever found. i might be a little rusty, but it'll all come back. would you be willing to use different airports as well, mix it up a bit, we could both get on EGCC (manchester, NW england) and EGLL (London, SE england) and do some good IFR approaches, im quite familiar with Manchester as its my local airport (and favourite departure point) and heathrow is an easy set up with east-west runways, all with ILS.

and FSX radios it is, no problems if its good quality, and you can set frequencies using FSX itself

I'd love to do it. The landscape around KPAE is amazing, but we rarely made flights around Europe IIRC. I'd love to do a flight from the nearest Airport (EDLP) to EGCC/EGLL.

ah, i thought KPAE was familiar, its Paine field isnt it? ever tried a flight from seattle to Mt st Helens, landing on the summit and then coming home? pretty backcountry, and damn cool.

anyway, i can do IFR vectoring as ATC, providing i know which runway im directing to and im not a thousand miles away, and i know EGCC fairly well, (EGLL as well, but not so good on the ground)

and please dont do it in F-18s, its hard for an ATC to keep up with birds doing mach 2 on downwind

Im on right now if some one wants to come

have to go off for now. Maybe later

I might go on later and use my new rudder pedals.

I can get on, too.

I just tried to get on twice and the dialogue says it can't create a connection. I'm on LAN and the network settings match that of the fisrt post instructions (6112-6122). Any ideas?
