trivial question... I think the Orbiter Forum icon has changed. Its a Green t-shirt shape now. Can't remeber what it was before.
New version?

N.

Really? I thought it was a blue abstract shape. Maybe I have icon confusion...

Thanks
N.

It's a blue box with the letters 'OF' in white. That's what I'm seeing.

I'd suggest you clear your browser cache. possibly some sort of corruption.

Ah, that rings a bell, its still a green t shape for me. I'll do some browser cache clearing. As soon as I find out what that is!

Thanks, N.

In firefox Tools -> Clear private data -> make sure cache is checked then click on "Clear private data now"

In Internet explorer -> Tools -> Internet options -> Delete Files -> Delete all offline content

A cache is a collection of "bits" from webpages. The idea is simple but effective. For example, if you are on this site you don't want to download the OF icon or OF main page graphics everytime you connect. Not only can this be expensive in terms of bandwidth (for both the host and the client) it can be slow for those on older connections so the client downloads the file just once and caches. Next time, rather than download it from the website it pulls it from the local cache.

Note that your browser cache is different from any caching used on Proxy servers.

Thanks garyw, thats fixed it, don't know where it got that green t-shirt from, but it wasn't suitable.

OF has now lost its favicon for me on two different computers on both firefox and IE, and clearing the cache does nothing.

Willy88 made us a new one and I've just uploaded it last night. It'll probably take a while before it's displayed, not sure why it takes so long...

That explains why Notebook was stuck with a green one. I don't know if it's a bug in his browser (I'm assuming he's using FireFox cos I've seen a similar problem when bookmarking sites), or if the browser just loads the same icon file name from the cache and doesn't do any other checks......

Also, I did a Ctrl+F5 to make sure the site reloads fresh content (works in FF, don't know about other browsers) and the icon did not show up. If you replaced the file over FTP, the change should be immediate.

I just changed it last night, so when Notebook was having this problem the old favicon was still in place. Seeing this thread reminded me that willy made another one for the site that was waiting to be uploaded.

I deleted the old one first from FTP then uploaded the new one. I've had success with that in the past, but here lately it seems to take a few days for the new favicon to display. I really don't understand how they work, but hopefully it's displayed soon. I've attached the new favicon willy made to this post so you can see it.

Special thanks to willy88 for taking the time to make it.

Timing is all down to local cache and proxy settings. If you lear your cache and connect to the server it should be immediate. Proxy servers can do as their config tells them, including ignorning fresh content which is a real pain when you are messing with large changes on a website....

Just cleared my cache and no favicon.ico file is being displayed.

And trying to access it directly gives me this error:
You don't have permission to access /favicon.ico on this server.

so I think you'll need to tweak the permissions on the file

I'm now seeing the new one correctly.

Thanks for letting me know guys. I found a post on the vbulletin forum where they mentioned you have to change the favicon in every directory there is one. I have a test board setup which had the old favicon so I updated that one and tweeked the permissions. Not sure if it was both changes that got it working or just one, but at least it's working.

It's working for me, finally. It looks better than I expected.

Favicon works indeed and indeed it looks better than expected.
The old one was more obvious to see between many others...
