thats my current favourite. yes there will be a paint kit for the upper hull, perhaps the lower one too if there's demand but you'll have a selection of light and dark TPS textures for the underside, along with the old prototype tiles... you'll be able to edit the scenario for the skins you want for each ship, upper lower and possibly engine if i paint another engine style or two, which is another separate 'skin'.

For those who want a graphical view of the size of the XR2 cargo bay.

The 1st is a Standard Burchismo Cargo Module (A bit smaller than a 20ft container)

The second is a DGIV payload. I believe that 2 should be able to fit nicely/

Don't forget that usaly there also sits the CHM in the bay. So Burchismo modules would only be delivered to LEO stations with a toilet :P

Ah by the way, after discussing cups, bathrooms and stuff: What about having a kitchen with various equipment and meals and beverages available?

I once had the idea for some kind of "Crew Status Monitor" which would show hunger, thirst and tiredness of the crew for the XR5 but Doug said, it would be better to have this as a third-party-plugin. What do you think?

If they really had to go, they could use a plastic bag... but there's no telling what kind of damage it could inflict on the ship if it were to rip open! :weird:

That sounds cool it'd make long duration flights more interesting, you could set it up so you pack food, water, toilet and stuff like that and add it to the vessel mass, it'd be cool.

Well, all that can be handled by creating a custom third-party payload vessel -- XR vessels automatically update their mass to account for the mass of all payload vessels in the bay. So if the mass of any payload vessel varies, the parent XR's mass varies as well.

Also, in the case of the XR2 we already have a CHM (Crew Habitat Module) payload that latches into slot #1, which would include all those items.

That's cool :)! Will the CHM get a "living" interior in a future version?

Some shots from the latest beta, with some new skin work.
 Excuse me while I get a shovel to recover my jaw...(2 hours later) Got it; nice work! I cannot wait for the RC1; better stop drooling before the keyboard short curcits...

To coin a phrase:

...all that can be handled by creating a custom third-party payload vessel.

In other words, somebody could create a custom version of the CHM that would include as little or as much consumables management as you want. However, it will not be developed by Altea Aerospace because we're booked up for the foreseeable future on the XR2 Mk I and Mk II. :)

I was just wondering: If you belly land the XR2 (destroying the gear), will the gear partially extend like it does in the XR1/XR5? Also I noticed that you can destroy the ship without killing the crew (it says "you and the crew sustained MODERATE INJURIES but you SURVIVED") but the survivors have no means of escape from their wreck...

When a crash occurs the gear is shown between 5-20% deployed to show the gear is bent/damaged/whatever; this is by design. Also, the internal systems fail so the only way to open the hatch would be when the rescue team gets there. In any case, with moderate or severe injuries the crew isn't in any condition to walk away from the crash anyway... :)

The XR2's engines are spaced rather far apart. I'm curious what the Vsse (minimum safe single engine speed) would be. Have any of the beta testers tried to figure this out?

(perhaps this should go in the other thread)

I suppose that makes sense (even if I don't agree with the gear partially extending)...

Oh my.....
What have Orbiter become!!!!
You add on developers are just unreal!
:speakcool:

It's the work of a genius! (pun intended)

Steve, only just got to see that awesome new skin, and IT'S MIND BLOWING! Love it!

And secondly, that shot of the exhaust, are the backs of real planes so... sharp? Because those edges look like steak knifes.

Will it have custom exaust textures like the DG-IV? Also, another thing I would like to see is a customizable interior. I wanna make it like the inside of a private jet!

Well, who says spacecraft can't have hardwood floors and llamma leather interior.
