You might like to know that there will be a scale model of the XR2 available in the near future, in 1:188 scale
Cool! I might have to get back into model building. But why 188th and not 144th scale so it can sit next to my other launchers?

i could produce in a larger scale if there was demand, however its more expensive to produce at that size, nearly twice the cost because of the much higher volume.

In time for Christmas would be a good marketing move, methinks.

I'll have mine delivered ASAP tyvm!
[Edit]
Will it include the "mission" patch?
[/Edit]

nope i'm sorry, one price for all, and even then i expect i'll be lucky to cover costs.

C3PO, what do you mean, an actual cloth patch? unlikely.. its hard enough to get just a kit together by myself in my spare time.:)

Something that I noticed doing a flight over the weekend. I don't know whether it's been mentioned before (apologies if it has, but I don't fancy trawling through 59 pages...).

If you're watching the XR2 from an external view, you can still hear the computer voice (Mach 1, Mach 2 etc) and the instrumentation noise, even if the XR2 is miles off at this point (and you can't hear the engines etc).

Mach callouts are played as radio sounds, so you can always hear them as long as the XR is the focus vessel; this behavior is by design. This is so that the user can hear mach callouts even when viewing reentry plasma in an external view.

Or ascension plasma! :P

Nah! Just pullin' your leg, mate
When you made that cool patch with the beta testers' names, I looked into where to order real patches. It was very tempting, but I decided against it in the end. :)

A patch and model kit?? I would buy them both! Are we talking a real plastic model kit that needs glue and paint? Or a completely assembled model ready to display?

And replying to another post about ejection seats..
yes it is! enough that someone made an ejection-seat simulator. The whole sim is about ejecting from altitude. You get like 30 different types to mess around with.

Actually it's 9/10 the fun.:)

Anyone who wants their payloads modeled, better hurry!

needs assembly!

Cool.. I can envision about 10 custom paintjobs right about now. Perhaps I'll use watercolor to paint it!

When is this ship going to be ready?!!!!!! It is absolutely fantastic, and I can't wait to try it out!!!!! I will be checking the internet every day hoping it will be ready much sooner than later.

The XR series of vessels is one of the best for Orbiter. Seeing one of the vessels from that series in model form is pretty cool.

So, any new news for us?

Is there going to be a public beta of the XR2 now that the Orbiter RC0 has been released?

I'm getting fed up of not being able to fly the XR2 with the new betas because of the new atmosphere model.

Hey all. Hope you're still enjoying the ship... The number of downloads of the craft has completely blown Doug and myself away. You might like to know that there will be a scale model of the XR2 available in the near future, in 1:188 scale - approx 130 x 110 x 50mm in length, width & height.

It will replicate all the parts of the Orbiter model with separate landing gear, cargo bay doors, interior, radiators, crew, etc..., the whole entire thing as a kit that can be assembled painted, displayed and enjoyed whether on earth or in freefall. Development is already underway, Here's a pic of the work so far. I will keep you all updated on its progress.

Say, just out of interest... How the heck are you producing the parts? I used to work as a toolmaker, so I know that the price for a set of injection moulds for this would be somewhere around 10k at least, so it doesn't pay off for small series. So how do you make them? 3d laser cut-outs?

You can download the XR betas from this thread. There will be "official" XR betas announced in a new thread once we get closer to an official Orbiter release (there is discussion about RC0 in the beta forum). In other words, if RC0 ends up being the "gold" release candidate, I'll post new XR betas in a new thread. The reason is I don't want to release high-profile "official" XR betas until the core SDK libraries are pretty much locked down.
